A Hindu fringe group celebrated the 70th birthday of Donald Trump in the Indian capital on Tuesday, calling the U.S. presidential contender the "savior of humanity" who could end the global threat posed by Islamist militants.
About 20 members of the far-right Hindu Sena, or Hindu Army, held the festivities as Americans grieved over the deaths of 49 people in the country's worst-ever mass shooting, perpetrated by a gunman claiming allegiance to Islamic State.
"Trump has said Muslims should be banned from entering America. Everyone should support that," said Hindu Sena leader Vishnu Gupta, whose group is known more for its publicity stunts than for having any meaningful support.
Donning red and blue paper hats, activists gathered at a stall on a Delhi road to pledge their allegiance to the presumptive Republican nominee, saying they counted on Trump to contain India's neighbor Pakistan.
They observed a minute's silence for the victims of last weekend's shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, before a large birthday cake was cut to shouts of "Long Live Donald Trump".
"Trump is about to become the king of the world," Gupta said. "How will we attack Pakistan without his support?"
India accuses Muslim Pakistan of responsibility for a commando-style militant raid on the financial capital Mumbai in 2008 that killed 166 people, and an attack on an air base this year.
The nuclear-armed neighbors have fought three wars since independence and partition in 1947.

After massacre, Trump speech takes 2016 race in a scary direction

Hillary Clinton delivered a speech midday in Cleveland yesterday, reflecting on Americansâ efforts to come to terms with the massacre in Orlando a day earlier. âDemocratic and Republican Presidents have risen to the occasion in the face of tragedy,â she said. âThat is what we are called to do my friends, and I am so confident and optimistic that is exactly what we will do.â
Clintonâs remarks included literally no references to her GOP opponent. In fact, the speech didnât mention Republicans at all, except to offer occasional bipartisan praise. The point was to emphasize Clintonâs belief that this is a âmoment when we all need to stand together,â with a âsense of common purpose.â
A few hours later, Donald Trump delivered a speech of his own in New Hampshire. It was, to my mind, arguably the scariest American speech of my lifetime.
In a speech reacting to the massacre in Orlando where 50 people were killed, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump doubles down on his proposal to ban immigration of Muslims, and he expanded his proposal to âsuspend immigration from areas of the world where there is a proven history of terrorism against the United States, Europe or allies.âSpeaking at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics Monday, Trump did not mention foreign policy, discuss the fight against terrorist group ISIS, or propose solutions to combat hate or extremism, instead he said the attack early Sunday morning at the Pulse nightclub was the result of the U.S.âs immigration policies.
In December, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) was asked about Trumpâs call for âa total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.â The Wisconsin Republican wasnât pleased. âThis is not conservatism,â he said, adding that Trumpâs proposal âis not what this party stands for and, more importantly, itâs not what this country stands for.â
That may have been true once, but in 2016, Donald Trump is the dominant figure in Republican politics. Confronted with a brutal massacre â committed by an American on American soil â the presumptive GOP presidential nominee had an opportunity to show what kind of leader he intends to be. He did exactly that â which is precisely the problem.
Relying on a prepared script and trying to read from a teleprompter, Trump relied on a combination of demagoguery, ignorance, and lies to present a platform that assaults American values in ways that should be disqualifying.
The falsehoods in his remarks came so often and so quickly, it was enough to push professional fact-checkers into retirement. Trump said the Orlando shooter was âborn in Afghan,â for example, which is both untrue â the gunman was born in New York, not far from where Trump was born â and bizarre given that âAfghanâ is not a place.
Then again, for a presidential candidate who believes people born in Indiana are âMexican,â perhaps this wasnât too surprising.
But this was just the tip of a mendacious iceberg. Trump lied about the number of refugees coming to the United States. He lied about the vetting process for refugees. He lied about NATOâs counter-terrorism efforts. He lied about Clintonâs approach to gun reforms. He lied about the Obama administrationâs policy on intelligence gathering.
This, however, isnât what made Trumpâs speech so frightening. Rather, more important than his uncontrollable lying was the desperation with which the Republican candidate hoped to sow the seeds of distrust, suspicion, and fear. Consider this excerpt from the remarks:
âNow, the Muslim community, so important. They have to work with us. They have to cooperate with law enforcement and turn in the people who they know are bad. They know it. And they have to do it, and they have to do it forthwithâĶ. But the Muslims have to work with us. They have to work with us. They know whatâs going on. They know that he was bad. They knew the people in San Bernardino were bad. But you know what? They didnât turn them in. And you know what? We had death, and destruction.â
In Trumpâs mind, American Muslims are âthey,â while everyone else is âus.â He also believes â without any evidence at all â that American Muslims are aware of the dangerous people in their midst, but they refuse to tell âusâ about would-be terrorists before itâs too late. There was also this:
âAltogether, under the Clinton plan, youâd be admitting hundreds of thousands of refugees from the Middle East with no system to vet them, or to prevent the radicalization of the children and their children. Not only their children, by the way, theyâre trying to take over our children and convince them how wonderful ISIS is and how wonderful Islam is and we donât know whatâs happening.â
Trump is brazenly lying about the details â Clinton isnât talking about âhundreds of thousands of refugees from the Middle Eastâ and there is absolutely a vetting system in place â but note how he also wants Americans to believe scary Middle Easterners are coming to indoctrinate your children.
In the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in American history â literally one day after the bloodshed â Donald Trump wants as many people as possible to distrust their Muslim neighbors, to see them as âThe Other,â and to question their loyalty.
This included oblique threats, too. âWhen people know whatâs going on and they donât tell us, and we have an attack, and people die, these people have to have consequences,â Trump said. âBig consequences.â
This is the kind of language from an ostensible political leader that gets people hurt.
Two hours after Clinton urged Americans to ârise to the occasion in the face of tragedy,â Trump urged Americans to fear immigrants, Muslims, and refugees.
To be sure, weâve all heard ugly and divisive speeches from political demagogues, but remarks like these from a major-party presidential nominee arenât normal. On the contrary, theyâre terrifying, Trump is the first nominee in generations who desperately Americans to be afraid â if that means a near-constant stream of lies, so be it â so that theyâll put aside their better judgment and invest their trust in his authoritarian instincts.
Republican insiders were reportedly unhappy with Trumpâs latest tirade, largely because he strayed so far from the GOPâs post-massacre script. But more important than election-year messaging is the nightmare of the candidateâs policy prescription.
Trump is crossing every line, abandoning every norm, and thumbing his nose at every American principle presidential hopefuls have traditionally honored. If this works, and voters decide to reward such deceitful fear-mongering, the country will never be the same.

White people treat you well because Houston and Marshall took them to court to strip them of their appeal to the jim crow laws ( Nuremberg laws were modeled from them) and Brown Vs Board of education allowed you to sit at any lunch counter and enter any building by the same door as whites.
It allowed you to travel anywhere in the us and not worry if you are in a Sundown town. White people treat you well because Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner give their lives and because Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks faced brutality by refusing to give up their seats since all seats were actually white seats by default.
You are treated well by white people because black people faced down the fire hose and dogs of Bull Conner. What you agree is white voice was and still remains in instances white privilidge that good people fight against so the fairness you equate as their benefaction, come into being.
Dumb people like you would give up hard won rights simply because you think white people have been the same as you encounter them today. Sorry, black people showed them the way to that moral awakening with their blood. If you want to go to the past, listen to Billy Holiday "strange fruit". That is the reality of the world before now.

Oh, I was treated well, very well in Europe for many years, workplace, community, school, etc. I don't think they know who the rass Jim Crow is!!
