MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG WISHES NEW YORKERS HAPPY DIWALI
“As hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers celebrate Diwali tomorrow, our streets will literally illuminate in celebration of the festival of lights – and the triumph of good over evil. When Indian-Americans in the five boroughs and all those celebrating in the South Asian and Indo-Caribbean communities ring in the New Year by decorating their homes with festive lanterns and exchanging delicious mithai during this joyous holiday, we are all reminded that the energy, diversity and freedom of our city are its biggest strength. Together – with continued hard work – we can make sure that our brightest days are still ahead. On behalf of all New Yorkers, I want to wish everyone celebrating a Happy Diwali.”
