Former Essequibo Islands Secondary School student Farood Hassan recently made a timely donation to the Sans Souci Jaguars Sports Club of Wakenaam. Hassan, who currently resides in England, donated a quantity of cricket equipment including bats, bags, pads, batting gloves, helmets, and wicket-keeping gloves to Captain of the club Safraz Mohamed. Hassan informed that on a recent visit here he was impressed with the attitude and talent of the players and is happy to lend support. âI am aware that sports equipment can be difficult to obtain, I saw this as an opportunity to give back to my community and I am very happy to assist,â he stated. Hassan noted that suitable equipment is vital for athletes to succeed, so he hopes that his efforts will help to enhance the performance of the players. He promised to continue to assist the club and urged the youngsters to balance sports with education in order to become well-rounded individuals. Club Captain Mohamed told Kaieteur Sport that members of the club are elated about the gesture, adding that it will be of tremendous benefit to them. He said that acquiring quality equipment can be a challenge and expressed gratitude to Hassan and his wife Shabana Hassan, who is a former member of the club. Sans Souci Jaguars is one of the leading clubs in Wakenaam and participates in all cricket competitions organised by the Wakenaam Cricket Committee. (Zaheer Mohamed)
