Haynes Foundation announces UG scholarship programme for less fortunate students

WITH the aim of affording the less fortunate and academically inclined students a chance of having an all expenses paid tenure at the University of Guyana, the US-based NGO – Haynes Foundation – has announced its scholarship programme. According to a release sent by President Paul Haynes who along with his twin brother Patrick, are behind the Foundation, the “Haynes Foundation Scholarship programme” is part of their commitment towards improving the lives of Guyanese children.
Paul said providing college scholarships for students in Guyana and the USA is one of the specific purposes of the Haynes Foundation”, and they are “executing this project in 2012 after due diligence and the necessary funds are in place to sustain this initiative.”
One scholarship will be awarded in 2012, 2013, 2014, etc. In the fourth year and thereafter, there will be four scholars attending the university.
Apart from wanting to pursue a post-secondary education at the University of Guyana, student applicants must also be committed to community service and sports, and to contributing to Guyana’s development once they have graduated from the University of Guyana.
“This scholarship will fund full tuition and miscellaneous fees for one scholar each year for four years, towards a Bachelor’s Degree programme in the Faculties of Natural Sciences and Technology,” Paul stated in the release.
Persons desirous of being part of the selection process may submit applications before being accepted at the University of Guyana, but selection as a Haynes Foundation scholar will be contingent upon satisfactory CSEC exam results and acceptance at the University.
On January 2, 2012, the application form will be available for download at www.haynesunited.org, and will be distributed to the University of Guyana. The deadline for applications to be received by the foundation is May 1, 2012.
