Heavy rains cause flash flooding
Moreover, the disgruntled vendors indicated to this newspaper, stalls would close for days whenever it rained, as they were unable to operate in the water-drenched facility. Nonetheless, they are still forced to come up with their monthly payments and therefore continue to suffer a loss.As such, they are calling on the Georgetown Mayor and City Council to commence renovation given that vending is the sole source of income for many playing their trade at the La Penitence Market.
Perhaps, Mayor and Council are focused on the parking meters' operation and have no time for other issues in their jurisdiction.

Why should they be blamed?
Rainfalls do have their effects on Guyana, regardless of which political group is in the administration.
From previous discussions on GNI, I will briefly outlined the causes and effects of flooding in Guyana.
1. The highest/largest rainfall in Guyana; based on available records; was around the 1850"s when large areas were flooded.
2. Guyana's coast-land is about seven - 7 - feet below sea level.
3. The sea defence structures were built with about a 10% probability. That means that there is a ten percent probability every year that certain areas will be flooded. In a simpler term; to be taken with caution; is that flooding will occur at least one in ten years.
4. Of note on point 3, were one to construct the sea walls with a 90% probability, the structures would be of enormous height and base plus the cost would be especially, especially and especially costly.
5. The questions/issues on maintenance and upkeep of the works could lead to numerous questions on the actions of each government in power.

They caused the floods in Guyana during the PPP time. We cannot shift the blame now. Just like everytime the PNC brain takes a crap, you guys blame Jagdeo and the PPP. Why stop now?
