Hillary Clinton urges supporters to fight for better country in return to public eye

In a previously scheduled speech at Children's Defence Fund, Clinton never mentioned Trump by name

Hillary Clinton reflected on her devastating defeat on Wednesday evening, acknowledging the difficulty of her loss for her supporters and urging them to persevere through the Donald Trump era.

In remarks that were equal parts pep talk and funeral dirge, Clinton encouraged her backers to "never, ever give up."

"The divisions laid bare by this election run deep, but please listen to me when I say this. America is worth it, our children are worth it," she said at a Children Defense Fund event honouring scholarship winners.

"Believe in our country, fight for our values and never, ever give up."

She added: "It's up to each and every one of us to keep working to make America better and stronger and fairer."

Clinton never cited the president-elect by name in her remarks, making only an oblique reference to the controversial policies that fuelled his rise to the White House.

Instead, she focused on the future, asking her backers to "stay engaged on every level."

"We need you. America needs your energy," she said.

Clinton's surprising loss threw her party into a period of intense soul-searching, with an ascendant liberal wing blaming Clinton's campaign for failing to embrace a more populist economic message. In private calls with donors and Democratic officials, Clinton has largely attributed her defeat to the decision by the FBI to reexamine her use of a private server as secretary of state.

"I know many of you are deeply disappointed by the results of the election. I am too, more than I can ever express," Clinton said pm Wednesday. "But as I said last week, our campaign was never about one person or even one election. It was about the country we love, and building an America that is hopeful, inclusive and big hearted."

Admits to 'curl up' moments in past week

In her remarks, Clinton offered no accounting for any failures she may have made during her presidential campaign, though she admitted that the past week hasn't been easy.

"There have been a few times this past week when all I wanted to do was just to curl up with a good book or our dogs and never leave the house again," she ruefully admitted.

She chose friendly ground to make her first public appearance since her emotional concession speech in New York City last Wednesday. Her first job out of law school in the 1970s was for Children's Defence Fund founder Marian Wright Edelman. She later became a staff attorney and chairman of the group's board.

Throughout her campaign, she cited her work for the group as her "north star," sparking her interest in standing up against injustice toward children and families.

The group, which helps disadvantaged children, tried to return some of the affection on Wednesday night.

"We love her and we appreciate all the hard work she has done and say it's not going to be for naught," said Edelman, in her introductory remarks. "We're going to say that she is the people's president."

Still, in a sign of Clinton's new life as a private citizen, the event lacked many of the trappings of her presidential campaign. Security was light and she travelled with only a handful of aides.

Sprinkled throughout the small theatre where she addressed donors and supporters were a handful of empty seats.

She needs to go into retirement and focus on her grand children and preparing Chelsea for a Presidential Bid.

She should have taken some of Bill's advice during the campaign. Bill is one of my favourite presidents despite his weaknesses.

Hillary and Al Gore both failed to utilize a great asset which was at hand's reach.

Well,  It seems that more people wanted her than who wanted the lying, groping trump - by over a million voters. Base, remember the idea of unintended consequence a year from now.

She lost, and by a huge margin!  She lost in the Blue states where Trump chose to campaign!  That's the proof in the pudding, not NY and Ca where Trump did not even care to campaign!

FM

Come on Base, do not be disingenuous. She won more votes than he did. You need then to modify your generalized statement which was clearly incorrect.

i do understand that the system of electoral college is ised in the US, that Groping Donald got more electoral college votes. However, in terms of the number of voters who cast a ballot, Clinton received more support.

This points to a flaw in the system something that Groping Donald recognized some time ago and said that he favoured a system where the person who received the majority of votes cast win the presidency.

Z

ZED, you just don't get it.  Those came primarily from NY and California where Trump chose not to campaign.  You guys stop Monday night Quarterbacking.  Don't dwell on the irrelevant.

Trump WON, Hillary LOST.  Get over it!  Popular votes is all hog-wash in this system where real campaigning is done in approx 11 states!

If you want a litmus test of what could have happened in a PR environment, look at the states where Trump campaigned and flipped Blue to Red.  That is a more relevant conclusion, not NY and Cal!

These jokers!!  Trump won, Hillary lost.  Hillary blaming everyone but herself, yet her own staff said it was arrogance and even Bill said she failed to build a connection with the White working class.  Now she got "Whitelash"!

Hillary got a numbers advantage in NY and California mainly from the  Liberal votes.  Suck it up guys!  Change the rules before the games begin, not at the end or mid-stream!

FM

Hell No we won't go.  Justice for ALL not only Rednecks!!!!!

Boy, were we not lucky to have this "Redneck" country to seek refuge away from injustice from the Blackneck hoodlums in our own homeland!  The Blacknecks kicked us and we ran to Redneck land, and now we tell the "Rednecks" we won't go, even if they kick us.

It is clear the votes he gleaned was on the backs of a poisoned campaign appealing to the worse in America. The distinctions of the Urban centers and the rural poor is clear the educated could see through the mist and get to the truth while the uneducated, the bigots and of course the ones who saw their jobs leaving them imagine that black and brown people can disappear, coal can come back and the good old days of Jim crow will resurface. They are in for a rude awakening.

Baseman every one in NY knows Trump.  We knew him since the late 80s.

We always saw him as a butt of jokes.  With his name recognition Trump didn't need to campaign here.  And despite this fact he got stomped in NY winning only 37% of the votes.

Even if he campaigned here Hillary still would have stomped him.

Here is the deal. NY has a large immigrant population, black population, Puerto Rican population, and Jewish population. NONE of whom are impressed by Trump winning the support of the KKK, who are very impressed that one of their own, Bannon, is now a key advisor.

Yes, lower NY is filled with illegals, former illegals, families of Illegals, Black-Lives-Matter and a big welfare class who overwhelms the hardworking class.  Hispanics went for Trump much more than he expected.

Trump commands the upstate population but they are not enough to overcome.  I never said I believe Trump could have flipped NY, but Hillary's victory would not have been as lop-sided.

You seeing him as the butt of your jokes, hey good, so what's new.  Go run behind [Sonic the Hedgehog] Al Sharpton!  I still don't know what you celebrating under Obama.  Blacks are still as they were in 2008!

FM

Hispanics in NYC went Hillary all the way.

And despite your screams of NYC this is the richest, most successful, and most productive part of the USA. We send our taxes so that lazy Trumpsters can rest on the asses, live on disability insurance, their ailment being that "being white is so stressful".

And yes immigrant account for 38% of the population, yet almost 50% of the labor force!

And when the KKK attack you, as they seek to "cleanse America of pollutants" I know that you will scream for the Black Lives Matter to come rescue you.  Its also a joke how quickly Hispanics and Indians become "black" when attacked by whites.

Hehe, boy you are unhinged!  You fit with Hillary's "Basket of Deplorables".  This is why you lost!

NYC is rich due to the Financial District which is actually a consolidation center for quite a lot of American and Global wealth that has little to do with NY itself.  For this reason, Tax wealth flows back to the "basket of deplorables".  You are not giving Charity!

Caribj, you are the epitome why Hillary lost!

FM

BTW upstate is filled with decay and degradation. Yes they too live off the tax dollars that NYC residents send to NYS.

Amazing. Trumpsters only survive because Hillary supporters endorse the social programs that keep them alive, and even fund these programs.

And this is why Hillary lost!  You look at the suburbs with great disdain yet your inner city ghetto is filled with illegals and welfare recipients who draws on the system for a lifetime!  You are such a myopic fool!

So now, Hillary supporters send welfare payments to Trump supporters.  Caribj, you are joker!

FM

Baseman I look at statistics.  You scream based on your innate racism.

In 2011 the median household income for blacks in NYC was $55k, vs. $39k nationwide.   This was 1.4X what the average black in the USA makes.   Whites had incomes of $80k in NYC, vs, 66K nation wide, or 1.22X.   These statistics for blacks and whites don't include those who self identify as Hispanic.

Now I know that analysis of statistical info is beyond your cognitive capabilities but this means that blacks in  NYC do better relative to whites, when we compare them with their peers elsewhere in the USA!

No need to shed tears for blacks in NYC. We do much better than those poor souls suffering in those red states with the KKK on their backs!

And unlike the rest of the USA black REAL incomes INCREASED by just under 1% since 1990, vs. a DECLINE of 4% for blacks nationwide.

Now let us look at the impact of George Bush.  Between 2000 and 2010 black household incomes fell by less than 1% in REAL terms.  For the rst of the country it FELL by 7%.

If you look at the state of blacks upstate you would cry. Yes they are the ones who Trump so eagerly describes. NOT those in Queens.

2011. Non Hispanic whites had median HH incomes of $77.5k. NH blacks had $76.5 or virtually on par with whites.  Asians earned LESS than did NH blacks at $63.2k.  And you know that those Koreans are better off than your Guyanese Indian folks, so it is likely that the BLACKS in Queens have HIGHER incomes than do Guyanese Indians!

Yes BaseMENT we in NYC (including blacks) work hard and pay taxes so all of those Trump voters upstate can find work as prison guards, get disability payments, and have their drug addictions tended to!
