He made the announcement at the party's rally in Linden where Hinds got up on stage with him an the men hugged.
"Comrade Sam has given yeoman service and he has the will and desire to take Guyana forward," Ramotar declared.
Hinds, himself a Lindener, has been prime minister since the PPP/C attained power in 1992 except for a short period when he served as caretaker president following the death of Janet Jagan. This will be his fifth trip to the polls in the number two slot.
Ramotar told the gathering in the traditional PNC stronghold that they will negotiate and press the two bauxite companies to add value-added products.
"We will create a more than 1000 new jobs in a short space of time," he promised.
The PPP/C candidate said the promised deep water harbour and the upgraded Linden to Lethem road would lead to transformation in the region. He added that the government's fibre optic cable, which will pass through Region 10, will also create new possibilities.
Other promises included fulfilling the mandate of the One Laptop Per Family initiative to educate youths in their own homes with university and technical education also being delivered to residents.
The AFC has already identified Party Leader Raphael Trotman as its PM candidate while the other major force in the election race, the opposition coalition APNU is yet to do so.
