Puri shankaracharya blames western influence for rapes

Certainly TV and Movies from the West are part of the problem. But Rape was going on for Centuries. I think these Religious People need to wake up and smell the Coffee. Certainly, the GOVT needs to do all they can to put a STOP to these CRIMES.

Movies from India are the problem! Western movies hardly have romantic contents. It's all gun fire and explosions. Indian movies on the other hand are mainly about boy meeting girl with sexy tunes and sexy dancers included.

If there were some way to block US TV, I think that might be a good idea. For Guyana, too -- look at the upsurge in violence in Guyana that has followed the availability  of US TV programming.

Rape has little to do with romance, and a lot to do with violence.

When Guyanese watched all those shootemup cowboy movies in the 40s and 50s there was little crime.

 

Stop looking for excuses.  Crime and rapes in Third World countries is tied to conditions there.

 

India is a country with "honor" killings and wife burning embedded in its culture, so why be shocked at wide spread rape.

 

In Africa when a man dies his widow had to marry another one of his family members, she having no choice in the matter.  Further indication of the low status of females in non western cultures.  Again why be shocked at how widespread rape is in Africa.

The upsurge in violence started in Guyana when the PPP Cartel under Jagdeo encouraged the export of cocaine in every single product that left Guyana's shores. The byproducts of this are of course guns and crime. Nothing to do with watching US TV.

India should not lay blame on the west because bollywood is getting worst. Indian film maker should answer for all Hindi films that have rape scenes and how it appeals to Indian society. Rape men like Pran, Prem Chopra and Ranjeet received awards for rape in Indian cinema. What does that tell you? 

God says its ok to watch US tv! Seriously, attitudes to women need to change, India will benefit from this uproar and this woman would not have died in vain. Now back to watching some US programming.

Nonsense, have you ever seen what's coming out on Bollywood, have you ever seen the type of pics Indian models have on domestic magazines? Indian is a hypocritical society and you are seeing it play out on the streets.

These incidents have always been there in many countries, India, Pakistan, the Middle East, parts of Africa etc.  They are just being made public now.

Rape, drunkenness and suicide and hallmarks of Indian movies and it's also prevalent in Indian mass society, even in Guyana.
