Is anyone familiar with the name"Longchamps" during the French revolution before the Dutch named Guiana's capital to "Stabroek"?

This is known by everyone who is knowledgeable about Guyanese history, but maybe not to those who think that Guyana is a distant province of India, packed with "undesirable" blacks and douglas.

I am not doubting that every knowledgeable person  knows this historical fact, but no one has risen to the occasion to say whether they know this or not.

Besides yourself, who else are the knowledgeable people you are referring to on GNI?

Certainly not you or the rest of your gang who think that the history of Guyana began with Cheddi Jagan.

Apparently, you're running around in circles. I never claimed to be in the league of intelligent folks like you, but somehow, you can't answer a simple question on this subject.

Again, besides youself, who are the knowledgeable people you're referring to that knows about the Frence revolution when G/T was named "Longchamps" before it was renamed "Stabroek" by the Dutch.

Please note: I didn't post this information to talk about politics, Blackman or Coolieman. I am learning something and I hope you can be a good mentor to me.

Did you ever wonder about Plaisance, La Penitance, and the numerous other French names that abound around G/T?  Clearly the French must have been there.  It doesn't take some one with a 130 IQ to figure that part out.

I doubt that people will want to admit their ignorance of this.

I beg that you leave this topic as it is and let someone else picks up on it. Thanks you for your contribution.

Cobra, I read this thread shortly after you posted it but refrained from commenting because I didn't want to sound like a bright pupil again.

Truth is, I knew about Longchamps since my teenage years when I read THE CHILDREN'S STORY OF GUYANA by Guy de Weever. And subsequently other Guyana history books which I have at home here.

The French occupied the then separate colonies of Demerara and Essequibo briefly in the late 18th century. They left their mark on their plantations that are now villages: La Bagatelle in Leguan, La Grange in West Demerara, Lusignan in East Coast Demerara, etc.
