Facts are facts.  As Eric Williams said, there is Mother India, or Mother Africa, just Mother Trinidad.  Folks from the "home lands" laugh when we talk about "preserving culture".

Shaitaan and I had lengthy discussion of the Afro Caribbean creole culture, and the highly creolized Indo Caribbean culture.  About how these different cultures impacted our identities, how we view each other.  And most importantly how we see our multi cultural, multi ethnic and multi religious country.

Creoles (Africans, mixed and Portuguese) tend to see Guyana as a mosaic, Distinct cultures, with each in touch with the other, and operating on a cultural continuum.   Indians are perceived to see Guyana as a land with separate nations, each having to figure out how to tolerate the other. Neither having a responsibility to be inclusive of the other.

And in fact that is reflected in how Granger and Jagdeo see Guyana. You will NEVER read about Granger talking about "consolidating the African base".  You might here him discussing about ensuring that Africans have EQUAL participation and fair access to opportunity in Guyana!
