House passes bill to repeal former presidents benefits

The National Assembly Friday night passed an opposition bill aimed at repealing the Former Presidents Benefits and Other Facilities Act of 2009 without the support of the government.

The Former Presidents Benefits and Other Facilities Bill of 2012 was piloted by APNU MP Carl Greenidge and also proposed caps on the benefits set out under the Act.

However, President Donald Ramotar is unlikely to assent to the bill having said that he would not do so with any bill that does not contain government input.

Details to follow.

This is APNU's chance to show Guyanese what they are made of.......

If Ramu does not assent to the bill within 3 months, the opposition must commence a program of full non-cooperation both in and out of parliament.

Mudhead, in a democratic republic as Guyana is nominally the President is responsible to the people with whom sovereignty lies.

The President is not a free agent. He is elected by the people, responsible to the people, and subordinate to them.

It is about time the joint opposition use their majority to right wrongs with the use of their majority. Next appoint a commission to investigate the operations of NICIL.

Go PNC, finally they doing something useful instead of mo fiah slow fiah. However I believe this action is disingenuous and basic pampasetting as these fools know that if they cut the presidential benefits they would also have to cut the benefits for all parliamentarians.
