THE People's Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) continues to demonstrate that it is a committed and caring government.
This was evident yesterday, as the Minister of Housing and Water, Irfaan Ali handed over six housing schemes to the Minister of Local Government, Ganga Persaud, located in the Bath/Woodley Park Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) in Region 5(Mahaica/Berbice).
Ali expounded on the significance of the move as it now means additional responsibility for the NDC.
He called on those present to recognise that despite the official handing over, the government will still be subsidising the overall management of the schemes.
"The fact that the NDC is taking on this responsibility will require greater government subsidy," he explained.
In addition, Ali announced that the Housing Ministry will be aggressively pursuing their repossession drive in areas in the region, as occupancy continues to be an issue.
He said too that the residents of Region 5 will also benefit from the ongoing Community Road Improvement Project (CRIP).
In closing he urged those present to be responsible for the infrastructure the government continues to provide.
Local Government Minister, Ganga Persaud lauded Minister Ali for his drive in ensuring the Housing Programme is extended to Region 5.
He assured that his ministry will fulfill their roles in ensuring the schemes are taken care of, in keeping with their mandate.
