You do know that refugees from a war zone are very different from voluntary immigrants.

Guyana cannot even provide mental health services to its own people, so clearly is not able to do so for people arriving with war related traumas.  In addition who is going to house them, and where will they live?  Who will pay for this.

Bringing in Haitians would have been a bad idea, and all they would have suffered was an earthquake.  Bringing in war torn refugees is another.

In any case these folks want to live in rich nations.  No Greece, Macedonia, or even Italy for them.

Should be handled by their fellow Muslims in the Gulf States and in Saudi Arabia.

Well it is Europe's problem since the character of the region will be swamped with these backward hoards who wont change in their new land. Europe needs a save haven for these people who cannot find one among t their own. Note no one is running to Algeria or to Saudi Arabia or to turkey or to Mongolia. All of them want to forget the infidel Germany is a pork eating, beer guzzling culture and plant their behinds squat in it and then begin to gripe as usual.

This is not America's fight. America is in decline, so is its global reach. Europe needs to take care of their own problems and stop taking a free ride on the US. In addition, the US made a mistake to engage in the Middle East....they should not have gone into Iraq. Let the different factions fight it out...its a messy situation overthere in the Middle East.  

America is the most powerful nation on the planet. If it does not stand up no one will. America in decline is for those who do not know what America is or represents. It will be the main force of the next century at least because no one is doing the kinds of research or allowed the freedom to be creative anywhere else but here. Until that time that some other takes up the mantle, America is the moral conscience of the world however clumsily it is wielded.  Remember this post, we will be there within a year or with the next president. Europe will be there as well.

The question about why they don't want to go to the prosperous ME countries speaks volumes about these countries and their way of life, their habits (bad) etc...

Europe will gladly help given they would be spared the potential troubles these people will create for the region in the future. In a place like guyana they can create sustainable communities. Unfortunately, these are a desert people and will not like the environment where struggles with water and floods are part and parcel of life.

No American politician can survive if they say they will let Muslims from this region resettle here. They desert Christians will definitely come. The only muslim who will come here will be those who have family ties.

As Guyanese migrants in America and Canada and other affluent countries, we ought to view with understanding and empathy the plight of those migrants/refugees in Europe. They are not there because they love Germany, Hungary, France, etc. Poverty, persecution and war drove them away from their homelands. And the United States and the EU bear some responsibility.

Take the case of Syrian refugees. Have we forgotten that the Obama administration armed and financed Syrian rebels to wage a bloody devastating war against the Assad regime? First the Syrian civilians fled to neighbouring Turkey but that country cannot absorb more refugees so the poor folks have to go somewhere else.

Of course, in any crisis or desperate situation there will crop up profiteering vultures who offer transport to a safer place. There are big-money operators fetching those refugees across the Mediterranean to Central and Western Europe.

Why are you people talking about a refugee problem and don't seem to do anything about it ?

Migrant crisis: Why Syrians do not flee to Gulf states

As the crisis brews over Syrian refugees trying to enter European countries, questions have been raised over why they are not heading to wealthy Gulf states closer to home.

Although those fleeing the Syrian crisis have for several years been crossing into Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey in huge numbers, entering other Arab states - especially in the Gulf - is far less straightforward.

Officially, Syrians can apply for a tourist visa or work permit in order to enter a Gulf state.

But the process is costly, and there is a widespread perception that many Gulf states have unwritten restrictions in place that it make it hard for Syrians to be granted a visa in practice.

Most successful cases are Syrians already in Gulf states extending their stays, or those entering because they have family there.

For those with limited means, there is the added matter of the sheer physical distance between Syria and the Gulf.

Not welcome?

This comes as part of wider obstacles facing Syrians, who are required to obtain rarely granted visas to enter almost all Arab countries.

Without a visa, Syrians are not currently allowed to enter Arab countries except for Algeria, Mauritania, Sudan and Yemen.

The relative wealth and proximity to Syria of the states has led many - in both social and as well as traditional media - to question whether these states have more of a duty than Europe towards Syrians suffering from over four years of conflict and the emergence of jihadist groups in the country.

Users have posted powerful images to illustrate the plight of Syrian refugees, with photos of people drowned at sea, children being carried over barbed wire, or families sleeping rough.

A Facebook page called The Syrian Community in Denmark has shared a video showing migrants being allowed to enter Austria from Hungary, prompting one user to ask: "How did we flee from the region of our Muslim brethren, which should take more responsibility for us than a country they describe as infidels?"

Another user replied: "I swear to the Almighty God, it's the Arabs who are the infidels."

'Let them in!'

The story has also attracted the attention of regional press and political actors.

The Saudi daily Makkah Newspaper published a cartoon - widely shared on social media - that showed a man in traditional Gulf clothing looking out of a door with barbed wire around it and pointing at door with the EU flag on it.

"Why don't you let them in, you discourteous people?!" he says.

The commander of the opposition Free Syrian Army (FSA), Riyad al-Asaad, retweeted an image of refugees posted by a former Kuwaiti MP, Faisal al-Muslim, who had added the comment: "Oh countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, these are innocent people and I swear they are most deserving of billions in aid and donations."

But despite the appeals from social media, Gulf states' position seems unlikely to shift in favour of Syrian refugees.

In terms of employment, the trend in most Gulf states, such as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE is towards relying on migrant workers from South-East Asia and the Indian subcontinent, particularly for unskilled labour.

While non-Gulf Arabs do occupy positions in skilled mid-ranking jobs, for example in education and health, they are up against a "nationalisation" drive whereby the Saudi and Kuwaiti governments in particular are seeking to prioritise the employment of locals.

Non-native residents may also struggle to create stable lives in these countries as it is near impossible to gain nationality.

In 2012, Kuwait even announced an official strategy to reduce the number of foreign workers in the emirate by a million over 10 years.

I hope you folks who complain about white people look to the generosity of Europe in these hard times despite knowing they are taking in severely damaged people, most suffering PTSD and other effects of a horrible interline was.

I will submit to you that, using most measures of social progress the USA trails behind other rich nations.  While they provide access to decent education and healthcare, and guarantee a decent retirement, we waste trillions of dollars engaging in wars which have nop benefit to us.

The Middle East is in Europe's backyard, not ours.  Let THEM deal with the problem, or be faced with millions of refugees.  If Saudi and Gulf States have any conscience they will deal with the humanitarian crisis by establishing decent places for refugees to flee to, and also snuffing out ISIS.  If the latter is crushed, it then becomes easier to deal with Assad.

And why should the USA be the moral conscience of the world?  Like you forgot all about the Katrina fiasco when the inability of the USA to take care of its own citizens was laid bare.  In any case when the USA interferes the same people scream that the USA is playing bully.

Let the USA tend to its own myriad of problems, and leave others to deal with theirs.

The fact that a baby drowned shows that Europe was not as generous as yuou claim that they were.  After all had the family used legal means of transport, they would have landed safely, but instead they used illegal transport managed by unscrupulous smugglers.

And of course it begs the question about the fact that their own Arab brethren turn their backs on them.  It is Lebanon and Jordan, and not the considerably wealthier Saudis and Gulf States, who are bearing the pain with both the Syrians, and the Iraqis.

Why should Europe bear more of the pain than wealthy Arab nations?

And there needs to be discussion about the behavior of these "righteous" Muslims, who are quick to blame the infidels, and wage war against us.

It is a known fact that Saudi interests bankroll much of the anti social behavior which occurs in Muslim lands.

Islam is spreading!

Most of those people care little of Islam when it is in Christians arms they are seeking to find comfort. Instead of the asinine statement above, you should ask why none of the 1 and a half million on the move are heading anywhere but to  port eating, beer drinking, short skirt wearing christian lands. Islam has not been accommodating.

Germany's Fräuleins happens to be mainly blue eyed blonds. Germany is the only welcoming nation in Europe remaining for muslim refugees. Everyone else is tired of them and not trusting of these already damaged people coming in by the thousands.

Dresden, Hamburg, Berlin among many cities existing from antiquity were razed in WWII. In under 10 years these cities rose from the ashes to be among the most bustling and alive cities on the planet. The reason is that Germans are resilient and know who they are. They are a small nation and yet rival china in output.
