How many schools have libraries?

Dear Editor,

While the showcase distribution of books by the Ministry of Education is highlighted in the media as an Education Month activity, one wonders how many of our schools in Guyana have an active library with a librarian attached.

Does the Ministry of Education have a School Libraries Division? Is it properly staffed if it exists? Does it receive an adequate allocation to cater for technical services to school libraries?

Are teachers, on the assumption that the government is too poor to employ librarians, trained to monitor libraries?

Yours faithfully,

(Name and address provided)

My daughter called me an hour ago and ask me to help her with a tax problem she has to hand in for home work assignment today. We live in America, and we use the old method of information sharing to get by in times of need. What's wrong with downloading a book? If knowledge means something to you, it doesn't matter how you acquired it. Most of us spend hours on PC's talking sugar cake on GNI, but to download something is a problem?
