A life marked by missteps and personal tragedy has also been buoyed by a series of remarkably fortuitous events. And the combination hit the moment just right.

Joe Biden

It’s been barely more than eight months since Joe Biden’s presidential campaign looked all but done. It’s been five years since the wrenching death of his oldest son derailed his shot to pursue the presidency from the vice-presidential slot—which looked at the time like the best chance he would have. And it’s been a dozen years since his last failed White House run, more than 30 since his first, and close to half a century since a car crash killed his wife and baby daughter weeks after he was elected to the United States Senate—nearly causing him to resign before he had cast a single vote.

The life of Biden, defined by cosmic swings of fortune, crushing personal tragedies and career-saving resurrections, has culminated with this: He is now, at 77 years old, the president-elect.

For some people who experience personal tragedy and trauma in their lives, in order to survive, they tend to search for a meaning to go forward. During this search, an important choice is made, to either follow the person gone before you and take your own life, or search for a positive message within the experience, that will give strength to go forward.

In most trauma and 'negative' experiences, there is always a positive message, if we remain on course during our grief and look hard enough to find it.

Years after a person we love very much suddenly dies, we might be able to live rationally again and know that the experience we gain in this trauma is helpful to others in a similar situation. Thus creating a positive outlook in life for us to do extraordinary things.

In most personal trauma and experiences, there is always a positive message to go forward, if we look hard enough to find it, as President-Elect Joe Biden has done.

I've always empathized with Joe. In 1972 his wife Neilia and 1-year daughter were killed in a car crash in Delaware, Beau suffered a broken leg, Hunter a skull fracture. Joe wanted to resign to care for them but Senate Leader Mike Mansfield persuaded him not to. He traveled daily between DC and Delaware via Amtrak to have dinner and spend the night with them.

In 2015 Beau died from brain cancer at Walter Reed.

Joe has a stutter which affected his performance in the 2020 presidential debates.

trump doesn't have a stutter but yet with Joe spoke and connected with the people..all the people much more in that last speech than trump did during the whole time he played the role of President in the whitehouse.

Thanks Athena. I am aware of Joe Biden's  challenges and  positive outcome, that I  see in many people around me. Where I could relate, due to my sister's murder in Guyana.

BTW, last night I watched a YouTube movie called Escape from Athena, with some famous British actors. Its a WW11 movie, filmed in Greece.

Trump is a so-called billionaire with an empty brain. But Biden grew up poor with a stutter and  numerous life challenges. Yet Biden beat him at the polls.

The message here : MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL.
