Even though they had no direct or significant purpose to the issues, six ministers were approved by Cabinet to attend hearings of the no-confidence motion and related cases before the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) – a trip that was fully paid for by the Guyana Government.

Director General of the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon, explained that their purposes at the CCJ was to represent their government.

“The Government will, of course, have the legal attorneys who are presenting their case but very often in a courtroom, when a judge is dealing with a matter, he will look to see what is the interest or what the party’s interests is. In fact, if they don’t appear, if they appear and so on,” Harmon told reporters at a post-cabinet press briefing today.

Ministers George Norton, Sydney Allicock, Nicolette Henry, Tabitha Sarrabo-Halley and Haimraj Rajkumar travelled to Trinidad on May 9, 2019 while Minister Ronald Bulkan joined the party on May 10, 2019.

Harmon did not disclose the cost associated with the trip which was inclusive of accommodation and meals.

But he noted that the decision to send the ministerial delegation to the CCJ was after a “long and careful deliberation” at Cabinet.

The court proceedings at the CCJ were live-streamed for viewing.

Did you listen to Roysdale Ford and Neil Boston at CCJ?  That was ignorance and clumsiness to the highest degree.  Did you hear how many times the judge corrected Basil?

And did you see PPP star boy Sanjeev Datadin prove to the world that not all Guyanese are stupid people?  That was a class act to follow.

How come the slopster didn't post this bit of information?  One of the other jackass claimed that govt paid for opposition travel and accommodations. Now we find out is pnc ministers who get sport up. Note that when they say govt pay, it really means taxpayers pay. I am not sure why Tola panties all up in a bunch over this wasting of tax payers dollars.

What are you saying you ignorant woman. Those lawyers were there because they were paid a pretty penny. They are advocates for hire. They had a bad case to defend. Their arguments when stilted represented the quality of the evidence they had to stand by.  And I did not see Mr Datadin being in any way an intellectual wizard. He had a straight forward argument to deliver and he did his job well.

You are pretending as usual that you are selling smart Guyanese vs dunce ones with the dog whistle being it is what was being  on display was of the low class black people vs classy indian folks. It was a contest for power the machinations of which was seeded in the back room of the PPP seeking to unseat the APNU and shorten their tenure so they can get first dibs at oil. The APNU surely know they had a weak hand. They are killing the PPP with a borrowed knife.  They even went nuclear by blowing up their own membership with the denial of right to dual citizens in the legislature. Surely they already knew that was the case. This is a slow drag to through the courts is a delay tactic. Win or lose in the courts they win the war because they intend to take this struggle to remain in office to as close to 2020 as they can. And they will most certainly get close. You are as dumb as a horse if you think all this pomp and circumstance is the true war to win. The PNC will win in the end.

Thats a good summary. When you read the words of the posters here, there is a subtle reference to primordial emotions, when its not otherwise glaring. This is an example of that emotive reference playing out and how Guyanese perceive each other. Thus, Nandalal is a pitbull in the courtroom and Datadin is a rising star.

However, I would make the same argument for the reaction on the other side. Although not much is written about this on this forum and in the Guyana press, namely that the two Afros on the Appeals Court were not incompetent when it comes to making a decision on the mathematical calculations that led to the NC vote. They were acting on their own emotions as well. Politics in Guyana is like a stillborn, hanging in the middle with the two racial groups on both ends of the sew saw. It is surprising that the PPP or its supporters have not wandered off into this accusations, but have dwelled on the error in judgment of these two judges.

Regarding the last sentence about the PNC "will win in the end", this can only be true at this moment if we agree that the PNC, with its control of the state machinery can set up a rigging system, which incidentally will not require massive rigging in the past so as to conclude that the "election was crooked as barbed wire".

On the other hand, if rigging is not in play (and only a naive person will argue otherwise, given the history of the country), and this election is going to be free and fair, I would argue that there are still too many variables that place a question mark as to whether the PNC is sure to win the next election.

I do not speak of rigging. I am saying this is a battle the PNC will win because in the end the PPP would not have shorten their term. The court case is a distraction as is the coming house to house registration. That will take us up to 20 20. To that end they win this battle. That the will Plan B the elections is another battlefield. We have been trapped in a state of low level internecine ethnic war since the founding of the state.

Brother Kaz.

Valid observation. The issue here is that ministers of the govern attended the hearing and taxpayers paid for this unnecessary expense.

PNC always fete, sport, wine down and waste. This waste and blatant disregard for taxpayers must be condemned since the presence of those ministers were totally unnecessary.

I would have expected a lot better from Tola and while there are calls for lifting of standards at GNI, I stated yesterday that the Dinosaurs of GNI who are calling for higher standards are the real culprits.

Harmon's ridiculous explanation for why the ministers attended the hearing as official business falls right in line with all the other silly  statements made by the Coalition since the valid passing of the NCM last December.

I think the government, not any party, is obligated to dispatch a contingent representing Guyana to any matter concerning Guyana, anywhere on the planet. Ideally it should be a fair representation but politics being what it is, we can expect the govt, any govt, to weigh the contingent in their favor.

We all know the PNC is using a delaying tactic to avoid elections. We don't need a scholar to point this out. It's crystal clear to everyone. The PNC has never won more than 27 seats in parliament and there is nothing to suggest they can do any better than that at the next elections.  The got the blessings of the AFC's 7 seat in 2015. Can the AFC win 7 seats again in 2020?

Billy Ram Balgobin

PNC don’t intend to hold substantially early elections.  They will push this out using all sorts of gimmicks.  Furthermore, they have all the traditional institutions in their corner. My take, they intend to muddy up the election and get over the top via the top-up mechanism!

They may come across foolish in all these hearings. These are side shows, means to an end.  A top AFC guy heading up the ground game!

Lets see how it works!

You tend to make sense on most issues but I have seen the outcomes of many events way different from what the best minds predicted.  A top AFC guy heading up the ground game does not mean that the coalition can retain those votes they took from the PPP.  If you meant they are out to break the rules of the game then that's not a remote possibility. However, let's not forget that the world will not ignore fraudulent elections in Guyana.

We all did not seem to know that. The poster I respoinded to thinks the appeals are contests the PPP will "win" in the end. Sorry, to win they would have had to cut short the PNC term. Elections are not being held soon unless the court mandates it. I doubt they will broach the issue.

Few weeks prior to the 2015 elections I predicted a narrow loss.  Rev asked what am I smoking!   I predicted a Trump victory, People said I was dreaming!

When the NCV was coming up, I said the coalition is overconfident.  I suspected the PPP had a surprise!

I’m not predicting anything.   However, thus far they are delaying and they will invoke the house to house.  That pushes to November....if all goes well.

They have GECOM, court, army, police all behind them.  This election was expected to be messy, even without the NCV.   The NCV might have backfired as it made their frustrated constituents forget and circle the wagons!

And yes, muddy the outcome, bend/break rules.  Let’s see.

Im not telling you to believe me, just a viewpoint!  Underestimate your enemy at your own peril!

I thought I wrote very clearly. I must be mistaken.

I said we are embroiled in a low level endless tribal war since our founding, There are many battles that count as strategic.

Here it is winning the battle to stay in office. I did not speak of the elections. I already stated what I think of that here and elsewhere.

However, let's not forget that the world will not ignore fraudulent elections in Guyana.

The nations best statisticians and political pundits die not think trump will win. His margin was so slim it was inside the margin of error. He won because Hilliary failed to kiss t he ring of them white women on main line Philly and in Minnesota and Wisc.

That the PPP would lose was possible given they lost previously. Again the win was within the margin of error.

The NCV appeal before the CCJ is even clearer. The judges know that Trinidad and Jamaica recently changed their even number legislators in their parliament to avoid there ever being a tie. They understand implicitly a majority means one more and never having to invent two non existent legislators to top up to a majority. They will rule against the PNC because they do not want to be the laughing stock of the world or the one that forces the commonwealth to revise their constitutions to redefine what is commonly understood to be a majority  mathematically.  Zombie mathematics wont cut it....not even Zombie...mathematics magical mathematics because explaining a majority the PNC way means having numbers of votes exceeding the number of existing voters by two!

Is it your stupidity that is changing the subject, or you having a monthly problem ?

Thins comment is highly inappropriate. There was no reason for it other than you losing an argument.

I see Tola as very sly. In my opinion, he tries to project himself as saintly but his comments frequently defies that image. I think he is not smart enough to know of the traps he usually sets for himself.

On point!!!  Except I would change sly to cunning and deceptive.  And you are right.  Not smart at all.  He makes statements and contradicts himself with language that exposes his hatred and bitterness.

What a bunch of backdam saints with a herd mentality. Dumber than a door nail, but don't stop now to cover your asses. Good stuff.
