In agreement.  The UK has been a member of the European Union since 1973 and opting out now will have economic consequences across Europe at a time when both the British pound and Euro are weakening against the US Dollar.  It would be interesting to see the outcome when the polls close later today.  But I believe the Brits will vote to remain in the union.

If Britain leaves it means travel, work, living in europe becomes problematic. I want to live in Spain. My sis got us some swank properties at depressed prices and I hope to be able to go there freely in the future. Exit from the union would make it difficult. Spain is popular with brits. Many will have to leave losing value in their homes in this harsh economy if they do

Danyael you are one dumb fool. You put money in front of people. you don't fool people on this Board into believing that those central and Eastern Europeans that are coming into Britain are not racist towards Pakis and East Indians. They are extremely racist towards our people particularly the Polish.

They put our people lives at risk. Britain needs to leave the European Union and concentrate on building the Commonwealth instead of staying in this race trap.

If Britain were to exit look for Scotland to bring back a referendum to leave the UK. The Welsh may soon follow. The border area between Northern Ireland and Ireland (which is still in the EU) will become problematic. Britain will lose all those subsidies rom the EU and will have to negotiate a new Trade Agreement which will be on less favorable terms than being a member. Washington may pivot to Berlin as Great Britain becomes Little England.

Brexit is led by the racist UKIP and Boris Johnson who from the 1990s was anti-EU for the wrong reasons.

I don't think Brexit wins today. Britain will remain.

You are clearly bonkers. Poles have never done me wrong. But then again I do not know many Poles personally.  I live among eastern europeans, mainly Russians, Ukrainians, Georgians, etc. and they are all quite nice to me.

These are all beautiful people and while they may be racist I have not seen it. I cannot speak to Indian experience with these people. I only can speak to what I know.

Contrary to you, I want Britain to remain. I think it would be better for Britain and for Europe. The commonwealth did not want to be a part of the Federation so they made a choice decades ago.

Whoever has ulterior personal plans I only see the benefit to the whole. Britain will spare itself internal disintegration, ethnic discontent and connection to global markets. Many brits live outside Britain in Europe. They benefit no less than Poles. Note Poles are nationalistic and they are temporary workers who have "left behind families" to whom they want to return. No one kicked us out, treated us badly or sought to build walls except Trump. We are here and we contribute. Similarly Poles who remain contribute.

These central and Eastern Europeans use white skin racial unity and use minorities by playing the us vs them race card to (for a better word) curry favor with the British people in order to get up in British society. It is time Britain leaves Europe and reestablish its role in the Commonwealth.

Shut your stupid racist behind. This will not stop racism but it will now mean an new level of isolationism that will adversely affect Britain. The idea that this is to avoid racism of others is bunk. The people who support this are the racist nationalist,  bigots. They now have to live with it.

You are accusing me of being a racist. The numerous acts of racism and racial violence against East Indians by Poles, Germans and other central /Eastern Europeans in Britain is there to see. What people like you don't see is the behind the scenes racial incitement of the British people against minorities that these Central and Eastern Europeans do  to curry favor with the British people and get up in British society.

Brexit good for the PNC, gold up 5%, oil down 4% and the dollar holding firm.

I believe the impact of Brexit is being overplayed though there will be short term uncertainties.  The Brits were never fully in with both feet.  They did not join the currency union and the maintained a hard border even though they are a Shengen country!

You hate poles because some poles hate indians. That is as bigoted as the poles who hate indians. That is a straight forward argument. There are white people everywhere that hate minorities. That does not drive me to hate white people because I have white neighbors and they are to a large extent like everyone else, worrying about their personal problems and not unkind to me.  I can see from trump fly over country support base that in other areas the ideas about immigrants are different. My neighbors are mainly white immigrants.

Trump has taken a far more pragmatic approach to the whole Brexit affair, that is, say less as it's the will of the people.  I dont agree with his entire stance but why wade into another nation's internal affairs.  Obama, on the other hand, says Britain now moves to the back of the line.  What the heck does he mean, Britain has been our best ally before the EU.  Trump grasp it and said no, Britain remains in the front of the line.  Given it was due process and the people have spoken, it was the best approach. This is a matter for the Brits to decide.

Personally, I think they should have stayed, but those bloody Limeys always have a problem with a dominant Germany!

Trump had predicted this.  Watch now for the rest of the EU to disintegrate one country at a time.  The European countries have to protect their borders against the "enemy" as immigration and terrorism take root.  Brussels is doing nothing to help these countries so now it's time for them to step out and take charge.  Trump is going to one up them all the way.

Right wing nationalism is not the way to go. It is where we were at the beginning of the 19th century. It resulted in brutal wars, and generalized poverty. The Maastricht treaty was a beacon of hope that there would be one people one, europe, one purpose. It was an experiment that consociationalism can replace ethnic nationalism.   Fear of Muslims has generated a resurgence of ethnic nationalism and fractures within the union. What will come out of this cannot be good for the region.

Trump baffles with bizarre appearance in Scotland

—UPDATED

Earlier this month, Donald Trump was asked about the upcoming vote in the U.K. about leaving the European Union. The reporter asked, “And Brexit? Your position?” Trump replied, “Huh?”

“Brexit,” the reporter repeated. “Hmm,” Trump responded, apparently unfamiliar with the term.

With this exchange in mind, consider what the presumptive Republican presidential nominee said on Twitter this morning:
“Just arrived in Scotland. Place is going wild over the vote. They took their country back, just like we will take America back. No games!”
What Trump may not realize, or really even be able to fully understand, is that Scotland is “going wild” because Scottish voters overwhelmingly voted against leaving the E.U. Locally, people aren’t celebrating – because they see this as a disaster.

Trump proceeded to hold a press conference in Scotland, against the backdrop of one of the most important political moments in the modern history of the United Kingdom, where he spoke at great length, and in great detail, about his new golf resort. The Republican candidate boasted about refurbished holes on his course, plumbing, putting greens, and zoning considerations.

Even by the low standards of Donald J. Trump, it was among the most baffling press conferences anyone has ever seen. The entirety of Scotland is reeling; the future of the U.K. and the continent is uncertain; and an American presidential candidate arrived to deliver a testimonial about a country club and how fond he is of the design of a golf course.

Wait, it gets worse.

Asked about economic turmoil and the degree to which the Brexit results are undermining the value of the British pound, Trump relied that the market decline is good news – for him.

“If the pound goes down, more people are coming to Turnberry, frankly,” he said, referring to the location of his resort. “For traveling and for other things, I think it very well could turn out to be positive.”

In a generational moment for the United Kingdom, Trump’s principal concern is what this means for Trump.

He added that as far as he’s concerned, golf courses are like countries. Trump wasn’t kidding.

When NBC News’ Katy Tur asked the presidential candidate whether he’s traveling with any foreign policy advisors who’ve spoken to him about Brexit, Trump replied that he’s been in touch with his team – but “there’s nothing to talk about.”

He then suggested yesterday’s vote was President Obama’s fault.

I argued yesterday that Trump’s trip to Scotland was a mistake. A day later, it’s clear I wildly understated matters.

Look, I know Trump doesn’t know what he’s doing. I realize that he’s in over his head. I understand that the trip to Scotland was about giving one of his investments a high-profile boost, unrelated to his campaign for the nation’s highest office. But the fact remains that arriving in Scotland today, of all days, created an incredible opportunity for Trump to look and act like a president – or short of that, someone who’s at least vaguely aware of current events.

This was a test he failed so spectacularly, it’s as if Trump isn’t even trying to succeed.

The word “disqualifying” is probably thrown around a little too often, but in this case, if Trump didn’t prove this morning that he’s manifestly unprepared for the White House, honestly, what more would it take?

Looks like Trump is predicting everything that no one sees. And the smart ones here are the ones who point it out.

Hahaha.

Now for the serious stuff. Immigration,  presented in fearful terms, like Trump, was the big driver on this refetendum. It will take a couple of years to fully implement Brexit.

This issue will not be at the top of the US voters' concerns, as pocket book is due will. Even if it is, the voting demographics ics don't favor Trump.

You totally missed the point. Trump is clueless about world affairs and wants to be the US president. How can he talk about foreign policy when he's clueless about one of the biggest current events happening overseas where he is present and should be aware of what's going on?

Obama simply stated that an independent Britain would be behind the EU in any major trade negotiations with the US and he's correct. That's the context in which he made that statement. The EU as a trading partner would have considerably more importance to the US than an independent Britain. The EU as a trading block exceeds Britain's GDP and potential to trade, many times over.

Obama's shoot from the hip style? You have to be kidding me. Trump is more of a shoot from the hip type. There is no proper structure to all those nincompoop ideas that he has about running this country. Shoot a lot of shit from the hip and hope that a little sticks.

I would have imagined that with your PNC in power you would be running back to Guyana. Instead you turned into a fair weather friend and deserted their call for investors.
