‘I stop giving traffic cop iguana ‘
… says driver charged with failure to confirm to sign
HIRE car driver Ron Duff confessed last Friday that he failed to confirm to a sign marked ‘Stop’ at New Street in New Amsterdam.Consequently, Magistrate RhondelWeaver , presiding at the New Amsterdam Court, imposed a fine of $7000 or an alternative of ten days imprisonment .
But, prior to sentencing, Duff, of Alness Village, Corentyne informed the Court that he was constantly harassed by a certain traffic cop.
“Your Worship, this policeman (he called his name) would always harass and threaten me. Madam, is all because I don’t give he iguana…I used to give he, but I don’t go in the back dam anymore, as I working hire car now. But this man would not leave me alone.”
At this point Police Inspector Ms Grace Bristol, jumping to her feet, informed the defendant that the Police Complainant’s Office in New Amsterdam is where he can lodge his complaint, instead of relaying it to the magistrate.
“But, it’s the Magistrate who ask me to explain and that was what I was doing,” he murmured .
Police said on January 3, Duff was behind the wheel of HB 9933, and had failed to stop at the sign.
