It would be legally and constitutionally reprehensible to cut the budget – AG Nandlall
According to the AG, the January 2014 court ruling by the Chief Justice Ian Chang confirmed his earlier edict that the Opposition has no power at law or under the Constitution to cut the National Estimates presented by the Minister of Finance.
Nandlall said that it would be “a most calculated and callous abrogation of the Rule of Law and an assault on our constitutional democracy”.

Sooba will continue to perform duties as Town Clerk – Minister
The Chief Justice however, ruled that while Sooba’s appointment was “legally defective, “his decision did not
prevent her from continuing to perform the functions of Town Clerk in a “de facto” capacity.
The Minister outlined that “Under the circumstances set out…be informed that Ms. Carol Sooba continues to perform the duties as Town Clerk of the Georgetown Municipality; albeit in an acting position and the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development (ag) expects that the Mayor and the Council would understand and accept this ruling , having regard to the fact that decisions of the Chief Justice can be appealed”.
