Immigration officers, Dynamic Airways staff arrested

 Cocaine in baggage hold

Three immigration officers and two employees of Dynamic International Airways were arrested as investigations continue in connection with the package of cocaine which was unearthed in the baggage hold of a flight that arrived at the John F Kennedy Airport (JFK) in New York from Guyana earlier this month.
Guyana Times understands that the Police are also looking for another Dynamic International Airways staff who has since gone into hiding.
This newspaper was told that the three immigration officers have since confessed that they assisted the passage of the illegal substance through the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
Reports are that the package of cocaine, weighing about two pounds, was placed in the baggage hold by a local handler and was discovered by a handling staff who was removing the luggage from the aircraft upon its arrival in the US.
The handler at JFK then notified his supervisors and the drug enforcement unit at the Airport about his discovery and investigations into the matter subsequently began.
With the help of US authorities, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), along with the Guyana Police Narcotics Branch, began intense investigations into the matter which led to the arrest of the five persons.
