Ezjet collapsed.  Story DONE!!! If you wish competiton commence discussions with Jetblue, as they are the only serious carrier that I can see doiung JFK GEO.

After GAC, GA 2000, Universal, Travelspan, Constellation, Ezjet, GuyAmerica, Arrow, Leisure.......you still peddle this nonsense that a tiny broke pocket nation that is being colonized by China can afford an airline?

Have  a heart for Guyanese travelers who have had to ensdure much abuse, loss of employment and loss of funds to support the egos of lunatics who think that they can run an airline.

With Ezjet collapsing and Delta pulling out it is clear that the airfares that we had last year were too low.

To secure a market share, you will see $399, $499 etc

However the investor must have $5M cash.

The GOG decision seems to have created more problems.

So Vish when next will there be a fly by night, and how soon will it be before Guyanese howl with rage and need to be evicted from that fly by night's office by the police when a riot begins as people try to get refunds.

I mean we have seen this often.  Which one of your "national" carriers have done Guyanese service in the long run?

Ironically the only likely to do so is the same Trinidadian airline (BWIA and its offspring Caribbean Airlines) which has served Guyana faithfully for over 60 years, even during the 80s when its revenues generated in Guyana were not available for general use, but confined only to support their operations in Guyana.

It is safe to say that we as Guyanese have developed a Crab Mentality(CM).

Ever since we came to the north, we developed a highly resistant strain of the CM.

Many 1000s have benefited from Universal Airlines but all we hear is about a few dozens that lost their funds.

In the case of EZJET, I am not an employee but was a strong supporter. It was this carrier that lower the prices and promoted more traffic to Guyana. The segment became more affordable.

A few 100s are in a position of suffering lost.

I am currently working with the DOT to facilitate some sort of re-compensation. We currently have $79+K and is hoping to access the security deposit to start meaningful re-imbursemnt.

Information will be posted on our website www.RichmondHillEDC.org

What does the national carrier status entail? Does it mean that the airline has a tangible advantage, lower fees, preferential treatment etc?

Or is it just a ceremonial title with no real clout?

This is their release, no mention of the flag ship carrier as you allege,  they mention profitability, meaning they needed higher profit margins to continue.

Following is Delta's official statement issued at 4 PM (Guyana Time) by Sarah Lora, General Manager, Corporate Communications for Latin America and Caribbean.

Delta Air Lines will close its station in Georgetown, Guyana discontinuing flights between the John F. Kennedy InternationalAirport and the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, effective   May 6th, 2013 due to poor performance of the route.

Although Delta would prefer to continue serving the market, flights between Georgetown and New York’s JFK InternationalAirport have experienced a significant decline in passenger loads and revenues for the past 18 months, leading to unsustainable losses. We have made the difficult decision to eliminate our Georgetown service to better focus our resources on profitable markets.

Delta will proactively contact customers booked on Georgetown to JFK flights after May 6th who have provided full contact information in their reservations to arrange alternate transportation or full refunds.  Customers can contact Delta Reservations at 1-800-241-4141 and for customers calling from Guyana the contact number is 1-800-221-1212.

Delta, has served the Guyana market since 2008. â€œ

Who are the crabs.

The Guyanese tieves who strat airlines and then defraud the passengers when they go bankrupt?

Why do you think Guyanese should support people WITH NO AIRLINE EXPERIENCE, running under capitalized airlines which then collapse.

The problem is this hasnt happened once or twice.  If I stop to think of all the airlines starting with GAC  who left Guyanese stranded and defrauded, I am sure we can get to at least TEN AIRLINES.

If EZjet was competitive they would have survived.  They were run by an incompetent who themn committed fraud to keep them alive.

In any case Guyana CANNOT have its own airline until the FAA awards them the highest category.  Aside from GAC and GA 2000 all of these "scandals with wings" have been US based entities.
