Among the items taken were in excess of $1 million in gold and silver jewellery; Cdn$3000, US$950, and G$190,000.
Bangari said the men also took his wallet which contained two bank cards along with a cellular phone.
As the bandits were about to tie up the couple, someone walked into the shop and started calling for “inside”, forcing the robbers to leave hurriedly but not before stealing two bicycles which they left on. As the men got one block away, with Bangari running behind them hollering “thief, thief”, they discharged one shot in his direction forcing him to stop and seek an alternative way to catch them, but by then it was too late. The Bangaris said the ordeal lasted about five minutes.
One of the bicycles which had a problem with its chain was left two streets away and one of the men made the rest of his escape on foot. The other bicycle was discovered in bushes some distance away.

Police, who arrived on the scene about one hour after, discovered that a gun had been left left in the upper flat of the two-storey building. The gun was described as one which is used to start races. Police are investigating.
