The official census for 2002 shows that there were 326,277 Indo-Guyanese, comprising only 43.4 percent of Guyana's population.
The census for 1991 had shown that there were 351,939 Indo-Guyanese, comprising 48.6 percent of the population.
In other words, during the first 10 years of PPP rule the Indo-Guyanese population decreased markedly.
In 2012 there was another census. Two years have passed but the PPP government has refused to release the results.
The most plausible reason is that the PPP's traditional voter bank of Indo-Guyanese has been further depleted.
Guyanese have a right to know the official results of the 2012 census.
I call upon the parliamentary opposition parties, the privately-owned mass media, academics and others to demand the release of the 2012 census results in accordance with the Access to Information Act No. 21 of 2011 which entered into force on July 10, 2013.
