Insurance policy maybe motive of murder

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Police in Guyana have charged the wife of a New York taxi driver and her cousin with his death.

Hemwattie Majid of Queens, New York, is expected to appear in court on Wednesday. The 36-year-old nurse is not required to enter a plea.

Assistant Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud says her cousin, Seerojonie Permaul, is accused of contracting two men to kill Shakeel Majid last month. Persaud says Majid's wife is accused of luring him to an isolated beach, where the two men then scalped and beat him to death.

The two alleged attackers have not been arrested.

Police have asked the FBI to help investigate whether a multimillion-dollar insurance policy on Majid's life was a motive.
