THAT the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Honourable Raphael Trotman could have risen above insular and partisan politics and reinstate the Honourable Clement Rohee with his full parliamentary rights and privileges is commendable and shows indeed that politicians can execute their duties in a responsible way, even when sitting on the opposition side. Added to the fact that Mr. Trotman came out of the womb of the PNC is even more enlightening and sets an example for his parliamentary colleagues that is worthy of emulation.
However, with the ruling that was recently

handed down by Mr. Trotman, the PNC turned APNU, immediately through their consummate axe man Basil Williams stated that they have rejected the Honourable Speaker’s decision in totality.
For those who know, this is in fact the only way the PNC/APNU outfit knows how to conduct business-via bullyism and hooliganism. The fact that Basil Williams was the one chosen to state the party’s position in indeed quite telling, given the fact that during and subsequent to the opposition-orchestrated 2003 Mash Day jailbreak, Guyana’s most famous columnist wrote the following, “The night of the morning before he died, Dale Moore and a certain lawyer with the aspiration to lead a major political party and who pays not even a cent in taxes was conspicuously sporting on the embankment; it was Dale Moore’s birthday.” For readers who don’t know, Dale Moore was the leader of the Mash Day escapees who wreaked chaos and pandemonium throughout the length and breadth of Guyana. I leave it up to the readers of this letter to ascertain who that “certain lawyer” was.
The PNC/APNU outfit barely has a paper-thin parliamentary majority, yet they behave as if they can bulldoze the government on all aspects of national development. They continue to operate as if they are still in power when the wreaked havoc economically, socially and rendered Guyana to the bottomless pit. Their refusal to adhere to the Honourable Speaker’s ruling is another manifestation of this tactic of bullyism and hooliganism.
One would therefore shudder to think what would have been the situation had the PNC/APNU outfit actually won the 2011 elections; all hell would have broken loose and they would have unleashed the “dogs of war” in this country, sending this country back to the Stone Age.
Respect and adherence to law and order is “what guide us in our everyday social and legal interactions, prevent anarchy and hold us together as a people." (Frens) However, such a concept is alien to the vernacular of the PNC/APNU outfit. They thrive on chaos, social, political and economic decadence and therefore any attempt to bring some civility to the table will be immediately discarded.
Contextually should one examine this issue, it will become manifest that indeed “gagging” the honourable minister would have far- reaching implications for this country’s security, since putting a Parliamentary “gag” on him could translate to effectively repudiating all efforts to enhance our security and this works in the PNC/APNU’s favour.
I therefore urge all Guyanese to understand and internalise the nature of the PNC/APNU outfit, more so given the facts that were captured in the preceding paragraphs. APNU is merely another name for the PNC. APNU was nurtured in the belly of the PNC.
