UNDER NO SPECIAL TERMS OR CIRCUMSTANCES NO REO OR MORE SO OFFICIALS OF GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO INTERVENE INTO VILLAGE COUNCIL ELECTIONS.
As we are aware that Indigenous Villages across Guyana are in the season of Toshaos and Village Councillors ELECTIONS where Villagers within their respective Villages through a democratic process decides by secret ballots according to Article 65 (1) Amerindian Act 2006, who will lead them for the next three (3) years.
It was brought to our attention that the Regional Executive Officer Region # 9, Mr. Karl Singh had intentionally overstepped his boundaries after being instructed by officials attached to the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs to unconstitutionally intervene by serving Mr. John Alfred with a memo indicating his eligibility of potential candidates for Toshao after learning that Mr. Alfred was the choice of the village next leader.
Mr. Karl Singh and the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs and more so any government of the day need to understand that this is a non-political activity and needs to BACK OFF AND TAKE THEIR KNEES OFF THE NECK OF OUR INDIGENOUS PEOPLE and respect the MODUS OPERANDI of our village ELECTIONS by respecting the laws of our Amerindian Act.
The Guyana Action Party condem such irresponsible act of dictatorship by the present Government of Guyana and by extension any government of Guyana.
