Fraudster Mike Mosgrove was quoted by Kaieteur News
The man who Kaieteur News put forward as an upstanding Canadian businessman and investor during the newspaper’s campaign against a US$30M investment by a Canadian company which intended to build a recycling plant is a fraud who was before the court in his homeland on several fraud related charges. Mike Mosgrove’s much publicized buy over of Hotel Tower was a sham. Investigations by the hotel’s current owner unearthed a series of scam perpetrated by Mosgrove. In November of 2013 the Kaieteur News which has waged several campaigns on behalf of the political opposition against various investment projects was successful in scuttling a MOU signed between the government and Natural Globe Inc.
The company had proposed to construct a US$30M recycling plant. In its efforts to paint the arrangement which would’ve incurred no expense to the state as corrupt the newspaper said Panther Corporation headed by Mosgrove had offered to pursue a US$26M recycling centre locally, complete with curbside pick-up for less than the garbage collection costs today. It quoted Mosgrove as saying “I’m very disappointed in how the government has concluded to go with a company that has no proven track record or experience….It’s like you’re giving it to a ghost”.
The Kaieteur news wrote “Last year Mosgrove’s Canadian-based recycling company embarked on a project in Jamaica to build the first solar-powered recycling centre representing a multi-billion-dollar investment and the prospect of thousands of jobs being created.
The company invested US$26M to construct and outfit a 30,000 square foot modular facility in Retirement, St James. With the approval of the St. James Parish council and the Mayor of Montego Bay, Panther signed an MOU with the Parish.”
However our background check revealed that in Jamaica Mosgrove’s company promised to build the first US$26M “solar-powered recycling centre in Jamaica, representing a multibillon-dollar investment and the prospect of thousands of jobs being created”. He declared that the Montego Bay plant would be up and running in six months. That was June 2012. Checks on his company’s Facebook page found the most recent report made in December 2013 was “Letters have been sent out to every Parish to launch the program and we are currently working line up equipment to complete the site for the Plant in St James. Agreements with NSWMA for Westmoreland are satisfied and plans for Clarendon and Trelawny are upcoming. Its time to get things moving and we are on the Move.”
Mosgrove is also facing several charges in his homeland. A Canadian Broadcasting Corporation report stated, “Mosgrove is still facing criminal fraud charges over $5000 in Wellington County. The OPP alleges Mosgrove’s company reneged on a deal to supply a tow truck to another company after money was exchanged. Mosgrove says it has ‘no bearing on where I was going with the election. This was not something that was going to deter me because I knew that it was between the two corporations and that it would work out.’ His next court appearance in Guelph is October 15th. In June, Michael Mosgrove’s city tow truck licenses were also revoked after numerous client complaints.”
