"The Independent on Sunday has learned that a military decision has been taken in Iran – even before last week’s presidential election – to send a first contingent of 4,000 Iranian Revolutionary Guards to Syria to support President Bashar al-Assad’s forces against the largely Sunni rebellion that has cost almost 100,000 lives in just over two years. Iran is now fully committed to preserving Assad’s regime, according to pro-Iranian sources which have been deeply involved in the Islamic Republic’s security, even to the extent of proposing to open up a new ‘Syrian’ front on the Golan Heights against Israel."

Obama may now be making American covert military operatives join forces with Al Qaeda in Syria to fight against Hezbollah, Syrian military forces and Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

I never would have believe that the day would come when American special forces operatives and Al Qaeda would fight Hezbollah.

That is why America yesterday dropped its demand that the Taliban has to disassociate itself from Al Qaeda before it enters into peace talks with America and the Afgan government.

The US is not going there. Arming some groups is not arming Al Qaeda. That they are against the regime is their own agenda. The reason they are not giving the rebels sophisticated weapons is because they are still uncertain who the parties are. A centrist authority will have to coalesce with identifiable leaders as is natural and then maybe there will be more support. Meanwhile, the US is doing exactly what it did between the Iraq Iran war....offer support to maintain a state of power equilibrium until they know for sure who are their allies.

This is the rolling out of WWIII. We are lucky this is unfolding in our life time. This is  history in the making. Unfortunately many of our children will not survive to have children to whom tell the story.

You must be one of the biggest clowns around, rivaling Colin Powell.

Nah, we entering another Cold War phase in the world.  Syria is a proxy war.  This time it started as a regional proxy war between Iran and Saudi but has now escalated to Geo-political dimensions dragging in the US and Russia.

The attacks by Israel and US openly arming the terrorists triggered this latest escalation.  Don't be surprised if Israel opens up a front against Hezbollah in South Lebanon.  And expect Iran to open up a front in Iraq drawing away Sunni energy.

By the time this is over, expect 200k-300k dead.

Iran sending 4,000 troops to help Syria's Assad?

Not so,

Iran for now has no plans to send troops to aid Syrian President Bashar Assad's forces in the ongoing civil war there, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Tuesday, rejecting media reports claiming Tehran was set to intervene directly in the fighting.

“We categorically deny this information,” Seyed Abbas Araqchi said, adding Tehran has never and would never send its troops to Damascus. Syria’s government forces have all the necessary means to fight against “terrorists acting in Syria,” and “Iran has no need to provide military aid to Syria’s authorities,” he said.

The Independent on Sunday, citing "pro-Iranian sources," reported on June 16 that Iran, Syria’s strategic ally, has decided tosend 4.000 troops to Syria. Iran “has proposed opening up a new ‘Syrian’ front on the Golan Heights against Israel” to help prop up the Assad regime, the paper said.
