Thatcher state funeral to be privatised

Responsible department: Cabinet Office

In keeping with the great lady's legacy, Margaret Thatcher's state funeral should be funded and managed by the private sector to offer the best value and choice for end users and other stakeholders.

The undersigned believe that the legacy of the former PM deserves nothing less and that offering this unique opportunity is an ideal way to cut government expense and further prove the merits of liberalised economics Baroness Thatcher spearheaded.

She is both reviled and revered, Britain’s most controversial and longest-serving modern prime minister. Margaret Thatcher, who led her country into war, and through upheaval, died Monday after a stroke. She was 87.

Known universally as the Iron Lady for her steely determination, Thatcher was Britain’s first and only female prime minister. She had been frail and in poor health for years, and hadn’t been seen in public for months. Thatcher’s death was announced in a statement from her children.

Born the daughter of a grocer in Lincolnshire, Thatcher was first elected to the House of Commons in 1959. Two decades later, she was leader of the Conservative Party, and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

“She didn’t just lead our country,” Prime Minister David Cameron, another Tory prime minister. “She saved our country.

“And I believe she’ll go down as the greatest peacetime prime minister.”

Buckingham Palace said the Queen was saddened by the news, and would send a private message to Thatcher’s family. The former prime minister's funeral will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral, and Thatcher will receive military honours, Downing Street said in a statement. She will not lie in state.

Her legacy is considerable and controversial: Thatcher faced down trade unions, sold off a multitude of state companies, sent troops to war in the Falkland Islands and was ultimately the longest-serving prime minister of the 20th century.

Thatcher won an unprecedented three general elections for the Tories, and was ultimately ousted by a rebellion in her own party, rather than the electorate, leaving No. 10 in 1990.

Thatcher is survived by her son, Mark, and daughter, Carol. Sir Dennis died in 2003

A Union Leader said he will share the Champagne with the People to celebrate. That is in England, wonder how they feel in Argentina.

Ireland allrounder John Mooneyfaces the prospect of disciplinary action following a tweet made in response to Margaret Thatcher's death.

After news of Baroness Thatcher's death broke on Monday, a tweet appearing from Mooney's account, said: "I hope it was slow and painful." It was removed within a few hours of appearing.

In a statement, Cricket Ireland reacted to the comments, saying: "Cricket Ireland would like to distance itself from the comments made by John Mooney earlier today on the social network, Twitter, following the announcement of the death of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

"Cricket Ireland have asked the player to remove the comments which have caused offence, and will consider appropriate disciplinary action in due course."

Mooney currently holds a central contract with Cricket Ireland, which he was first awarded in 2010. Since making his ODI debut against England in 2006, he has become an important part of Ireland's side. Most notably, his unbeaten 33, following on from four wickets

Thatcher believes in low taxation and small gov't as the best way to create jobs and achieve economic growth. She was very Reaganite when it came to economics. She argued that Europe with high taxation and big gov't created jobs at slower pace than the US economy over a period of 40 years. This lady was a staunch opposer of socialism even the type that Labour espoused in England. The coal miner strikes did not stop Thatcher's economic reforms from succeeding.
