Israel is the big dawg in the Middle East because of its American roots. Saudi Arabia can probably become nuclear faster than the Mullahs in Teheran can hitch up a rocket to a dankee for a ride to the launching pad, if the Americans so deign. It's like if America want it can let Japan loose on China, whose nuclear infrastructure is less sophisticated than India's. Japan's latent capability in this area is well known. And likewise Britain keeps America's seat warm when itt comes to Europe.

Netanyahu may mouth off but he can’t do anything without Obama’s blessing – congress notwithstanding. Netanyahu knows who is the power in the US when it comes to foreign policy – Congress makes appropriations on aid and vote on going to war, but look at recent Presidential politics and you will see who wags the tail in President vs Congress when it comes to foreign policy.

So the US strategically calls the shots anywhere on this planet, and ain’t nothing Al Qaeda or rabble-rousing Islamic-hijacking idiots from London to Canberra can do about it but burn flags and get a couple of their own killed in clashes with the local police.

No. There are natural constraints to America - both internally and in the outside world at large. But it is the geo-political reality that when you own the frightening military the US has and when every facet of economic life anywhere on the planet is affected by a country that produces one-qaurter of the world's GDP, you find yourself influencing events.

It is testimony to the power of example Obama speaks of and when he says that America must be a beacon of light to the rest of mankind. It is not hubris or arrogance. It is reality grounded in exercise of power.

That's true about Netanyahu -- he's not the one going for war. Obama is.

But Obama needs to prepare public opinion in the US for another military disaster, and that's where Al-Qaeda comes in.

Lately, America does what the British want.

The Brits would do America's bidding. In return the British Isles and its history/culture/traditions live on as long as its Anglo-Saxon brethren is the world's policeman

When I speak of the British, I am not talking about the British Isles and it history/culture/traditions. I'm talking about The City, the world's headquarters for criminal financial activity. Ben Bernanke bows in its direction  several times during the day in obeisance.
