PopEye's robbery suspect
flees Georgetown Hospital ward
- Tuesday, 27 January 2015 20:12
The bandit, who was involved in the latest armed robbery at PopEyeβs fast food outlet at Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, Tuesday night escaped from police custody at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, according to usually reliable sources.
A senior police officer confirmed that the incident occurred about 7:30 PM shortly after the detainee had undergone surgery to remove a bullet.
The suspect was shot in his buttocks Sunday night by an off-duty policeman who was in Pop Eyes at the same time when four men brandishing guns stormed the eatery and robbed the cashier.
Three of them escaped but not before firing several shots at the building, damaging its glass wall.
He said that policemen were combing the Georgetown Public Hospital compound and rooms because the security guard on duty said he did not see anyone fitting the escapeeβs description.
The police officer added that the guard said that he did not see any handcuffed person leaving the compound of the health facility.
Patients in the Male Surgical Ward also told a police search party and hospital staff that they did not see when the man fled.
