On Capital Hill that day, there were no poor people. It was those who could afford the travel expenses. They were the middle class, concerned about their dwindling financial existence.
In Guyana, the same in some ways. The middle class Indians sees the Afro Elites as threats to their financial existence. Their world of perks, clout and intimidations. The poor, both Afroes and Indoes is for one purpose and only one purpose, to make gods of the ordinary men and women of their land.
The single vote of the poor man, at tallying is labelled Afro or Indo with great suspect. Being PPP or PNC is of no consequence at the very tensed moments as the nation eagerly awaits the names of the pantheon of their new gods.
Best thing, ingratiate oneself. The poor has no upward mobility going from the recent PNC years and the past and current years of the PPP.
