Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo has requested a meeting with President David Granger following Friday night’s stunning No Confidence vote when a member of the governing Coalition defected and voted in favour of the motion.

ACF Member of Parliament Charandas Persaud defected and voted for the No-Confidence Motion, giving the PPP a win against the Government side, paving the way for fresh elections in three months

The PPP had 32 seats in the House and needed one more vote to win.

“Clearly the country requires leadership at this time given the unprecedented nature of the No Confidence motion.

“I just want to make it clear to all of Guyana that this is a remedy provided for in the constitution; we were hoping more would have voted for our arguments,” Jagdeo told the News Room after.

Mr Jagdeo told the News Room that he personally did not speak with Mr Persaud before the vote.

He said he had spoken with Minister of State Joseph Harmon and requested to “have a talk” with the President on the way forward.

Granger should say no. He would only meet with the PPP candidate and not his Putin.

Jagdeo cannot help himself. One would think that he priority would be to tell his PPP stooges who to vote as the presidential candidate and to tell them that his name isnt Moses Nagamootoo so doesnt accept treachery,

If Jagdeo will be out of politics after the election (he cannot run as presidential candidate) then why does he need to meet Granger? What is there to talk about?

Maharaja Jagdeo will make a deal with Granger like he did with Charandas. Maybe he'll tell Granger to hand over the country to him and his stooges.

Well, how about, because he is the leader of the opposition!  The one who just sponsored a vote and brought Granger’s government down!  I don’t see Jagdeo going anywhere anytime soon.

He is now the “Grand Ayatollah”.

Gyal, if the country is handed over to the PPP, I hope the $18 mil(US) is also handed over and an audit is taken. The PPP have learned their lesson and will be more transparent. Less thieving.

We all make mistakes and learn from them. Unfortunately the PNC believes their wilful mistakes are their stengths. The PNC still have that mentality that Guyana belongs to them. Did you hear dat Vulgah lady? She wanted time out. Weh rass she tink she deh? Linden, Buxton, Plaisance?

Jagdeo is the elected opposition leader.

So? I would not meet with him. It just allows the impression that if he calls one must answer. Pope Leo the III, was beaten, driven from Rome exiled to France and on bended knees begged Charlemagne to help him. He did. Charlemagne made one mistake, allowed himself to be seen prostrate before Leo as he was crowned King. It once again made the Pope the head of the church and the only legitimate authority to anoint Kings.

Jagdeo remains Leader of the Opposition; the President has to interact with him.

The government has dissolved. No meeting necessary on formal business. This is party business now. I would never meet with a non candidate. If it was necessary, Harmon can always stand in...better...send volga!

Granger could also say that he is sick and that Jagdeo should focus on selecting a PPP presidential candidate.

Yes let the PNC head, Volda, meet the PPP head, Jagdeo.

That should be an interesting meeting.

Agreed. The PPP should be focusing on its transition.  With parliament now dissolved Jagdeo has no status, so what is there to discuss.  He cannot be the presidential candidate so as of now he has no role.

Do you see me shedding tears about the APNU, led by a man who screamed that black people are lazy?

And it turns out that the AFC will be the biggest losers. When the PPP wins the election of what use will the AFC be to the PNC?  When Jagdeo moves to arrest Nagamootoo and the rest of the Indo AFC for treason Volda will say "good fuh dem".

So I dont know why you are screaming that this shows the power of the AFC. The AFC just shot itself.

Nehru just ranted something illiterate. Given that he is on block I can only imagine that this is now the type of personalities who will be back.  Janet will have to come back from her grave to help them look less ignorant.

The AFC shot itself when it trusted to form a coalition with the PNC.  They should have remained independent and use their votes to effect desired outcomes in the nation's interest!  They would have grown their base.

No problem. Whoever becomes next PPP presidential candidate will be labeled a Jagdeo puppet. Or communist. Or old hen. Etc etc. But PPP cannot win the general election without Jagdeo's proactive campaigning. That's the reality. Hate him or love him, Jagdeo is a vote magnet. The Party needs him, direly needs him, to win.

Jagdeo's detractors must live with that. Not for nothing was he elected General Secretary.

If t hey are of the older calcified PPP ideologues whty will be attached to strings pulled by jagdeo. That he is a vote magnet is also a misapprehension. He is the leader of the PPP and as such will inevitably attract ethnic sheep. Whom ever the PPP or the PNC pick will have sheeple following them. The party needs someone not so much attached to its crookedness over the past decades to be seen as palatable. Otherwise the stench will come across.

Django bhai, if the PPP can't wake up after 3+ years, how will the Coalition government wake up in 3 months to convince Guyanese that they have learned their lesson and will now actually work for the Guyanese people?

Jagdeo owned that house yesterday. He operated with full confidence and argued his motion pointedly. He showed great restraint when he indicated to Gail that while some fight is necessary, they can have it later. He didn't waste time on nonsense talk. Every time that Jagdeo enters that House, he is the most confident person in the room. He makes the Coalition folks go berserk.

FM

Y'all not big up Granger too much and put down Jagdeo. Right now, Jagdeo has at least one up on Granger but it could be more. He was twice elected President and he never had a no confidence vote against him.

Yes we already see that a new Jagdeo dictatorship will be just as it was before.

Continue!  People have a right to express their opinions. Of course in a dictatorial regime this isnt allowed. Will we see more gun attacks at Kaieteur News that occurred when the PPP was in power, because someone didn't like what was printed in that paper?

What an asinine comment; with respect to knowledge and experience, Granger and his goons are total dingbats when compared to Jagdeo !
