You people, especially TK,  need to stop with yo foolishness. Jagdeo might l make an effective Opposition Leader. He will represent the 2000,000 people who supported his party effectively. His post-election experience may very well guaranteed this. While you continue to cuss the man out, you fail to acknowledge how the PNC is solidifying its stranglehold on the people of Guyana.

Jagdeo will be an effective opposition leader in the sense that he will lead the charge against the government's annual budgets, supplementary requisitions and other finance-related bills and motions. Moreso, because Ashni Singh will not be there according to some reports. Jagdeo himself may have to lead the parliamentary oversight Public Accounts Committee, a post usually reserved for the opposition.

In bygone years up to 1985, the opposition leader Cheddi Jagan was ably assisted by his financial wizard Narbada Persaud. Having a first degree in economics added to his teeth-pulling doctorate, Jagan used to find all the flaws in the PNC regime's budgets. And Narbada was an effective and respected head of the Public Accounts Committee.

In the absence of Ashni, I don't know whom Jagdeo will pick for the PAC.

Whatever the outcome, Jagdeo will not be paid for his parliamentary work, as the Former Presidents Benefits and Facilities Act prohibits him from getting paid employment.

Regarding whether Jagdeo will be a distraction, you must know that every MP is alloted a specified time to speak, and that whatever he says is recorded officially verbatim in the Hansard. THAT is what matters, not the heckling or oral stone-throwing.

So it would not matter if he is called a thief every time he opens his mouth?  Is the heckling recorded also?  Legally it should.

Have not seen the posts. However, i believe we need to separate the campaign rhetoric from what Jagdeo has done. The man is not a racist...we tend to throw this word around without thinking. Believe it or not, Jagdeo has done a lot to the development of areas where Africans live. The PPP is a "working class" party not an "Indian party". Jagdeo and the PPP has done more to destroy Indian organizations than anyone else. How the heck does this define his as a racist (implying that he favors Indians and hates Blacks). You people need to stop looking at Guyanese politics like a book cover...politics is more complicated than this.
