January passenger traffic jumps up by 6%

FEBRUARY 14, 2016 | BY | FILED UNDER NEWS

Passenger traffic at Guyana’s main Port of Entry – Cheddi Jagan International Airport — rose by six percent for January 2016.
The airport’s statistics department revealed that 17,728 passengers arrived last month compared to 16,667 passengers for the same period in 2015.
According to Ramesh Ghir, CJIA’s Chief Executive Officer, the proliferation in passenger numbers is due to leisure travel and increased business and tourism activities.
Analytical data also indicate that the airlines – Caribbean Airlines, Dynamic Airways, COPA, Suriname Airways, Fly Jamaica and Insel Air – have recorded increases in passenger movement for the month.
“Our forecast for the next few months indicates there will be a huge influx of visitors to celebrate our Golden Jubilee activities in May. Management for its part will be working to advance our infrastructure and services provided including Immigration and Customs to ensure a smooth process through the terminal building,” Mr. Ghir added.
Meanwhile, in anticipation of a modernized terminal building and extended runway,  the CEO along with other Government officials have been aggressively courting a number of North American and Latin American airlines to ply the Georgetown route.
Airline executives look for unserved destinations with enormous potential and Guyana is one such destination due to heightened investments in oil and precious mineral explorations. Such investments attract yielding premium passengers which serve as a bonus for airlines serving any route.

Tell Ghir to explain who are the additional 6% passenger traffic, these are the Contract Workers / ex military and police men  hired by the PNC  coming in from North America. Let him explain why there was a decrease in December, when more people tend go for Christmas.

Why post this stats, it's irrelevant .Did employment increase since the coalition took office? the answer is NO. Crime decrease for ONE week, it was Big News, but after that week ,what happen , crime went UP.

The traffic is up because the overseas Guyanese have come to the conclusion that "Guyana gone fuh Channa"(copyright Nehru). They are returning home to sell all their rice fields, farms, houses and cows etc. A small portion of the returnees could be people with visitors' visas are returning home.

The airport was clean and was not smelly. However, the roads leading to the airport need to be expanded or a new highway be built to move the traffic away from the populated areas and with better direct access.
