Adelson: US should drop atomic bomb on Iran

NEW YORK – During a panel at Yeshiva University on Tuesday evening, Sheldon Adelson, noted businessman and owner of the newspaper Israel Hayom, suggested that the US should use nuclear weapons on Iran to impose its demands from a position of strength.

Asked by moderator Rabbi Shmuley Boteach whether the US should negotiate with Iran if it were to cease its uranium enrichment program, Adelson retorted, “What are we going to negotiate about?”

Adelson then imagined what might happen if an American official were to call up an Iranian official, say “watch this,” and subsequently drop a nuclear bomb in the middle of the Iranian desert.

"Then you say, ‘See! The next one is in the middle of Tehran. So, we mean business. You want to be wiped out? Go ahead and take a tough position and continue with your nuclear development. You want to be peaceful? Just reverse it all, and we will guarantee you that you can have a nuclear power plant for electricity purposes, energy purposes’," Adelson said.

“So a tremendous demonstration of American strength?” Boteach clarified. “So that they would get the message?”

“It’s the only thing they understand,” Adelson said.

“And do you see the current negotiations as a sign of weakness?” Boteach asked.

“Absolutely,” Adelson said.

Adelson, who donated tens of millions of dollars to defeated Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney during the most recent campaign, criticized the Obama administration's willingness to engage the Iranians diplomatically.
"[It's] the worst negotiating tactic I could ever imagine, my entire life," he said.

"Because you can’t get anything. He’s not saying to them, Roll back your entire program and show that you’re willing to be peaceful. So, roll it all back… and we’ll roll back the sanctions…. What is that, a game of chicken, who’s going to blink first?"

In response to Adelson's comments, Boteach said whether the remarks were regarded as serious or an exaggeration to exemplify the extreme measures that the US must take to thwart Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, the international community often employs double standards on Israeli issues.

“When I heard Sheldon make his remark, my initial thought was that his purpose was to goad his more liberal critics into attacking the policy so that their double standards on nuclear threats against Israel could be exposed,” said Rabbi Boteach in a statement.

“I would hope that those who seem alarmed by Sheldon’s overstatement on the extent to which the United States should go to stop Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon will at least protest that much more loudly against its actual development,” he added.

Benjamin Netanyahu: No 'partial deal' with a nuclear Iran

ROME — Israel's prime minister says the world should not accept what he called a "partial deal" to curb Iran's nuclear program — just as it would not have allowed the Syrian government to keep any of its chemical weapons stockpile.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (neh-ten-YAH'-hoo) told U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday that negotiators must require Tehran to end all enrichment on uranium, get rid of any fissile material and close water plants and underground bunkers Netanyahu said are only necessary to build a nuclear bomb.

Netanyahu's comments came at the start of what's expected to be a long day of talks with Kerry in Rome.

Kerry maintained that Iran must convince the world that its nuclear program is peaceful, as Tehran insists it is.

The President of the United States IS the President of the United States. No one will dictate foreign policy to him (or her - when Hillary occupies the White House). It's that simple. Obama has a foreign policy and regarding the Middle East there are restraints to allies and foes alike that he s enforcing while working to a more peaceful region in the Middle East.

Israel is not the nation as Biblical times. Those who claims to be Jews should be aware that if prophecies are true for them, then they should remember God in past favoured the nations of Persia, Syria and Assyria. And God even exiled the Jews to those lands. While Jews wandered the Globe, the nations of Persia, Syria and Assyria were never exiled. Instead, they were strengthened with coming of Islam.

Israel today is full of sins. Under such a state, peace would not be forthcoming.

All the peoples of the world are God's creation. And I doan think the devil can create ppl yet. He tried to make mankind by tampering wid monkeys and he got the scientist fooled thinking that man was an ape before.

The creation of Israel had a lot to do with the non-Semite Jews - the ones who were driven from Europe (then got liberated and decided to make Israel a Jewish State). The original Jews are less dominant than these "imported" Jews. That's a dynamic understood by the West and with the backdrop of the Holocaust this movement got some slack from the Western nations and indeed Russia (where most of these Jews are from).

And big mouth speaketh.  As the Paki ambassador said on Fareid Zakaria's show, the Obama foreign policy does not have a clear message for either the friend or foe, it's an unmitigated disaster.  He is enforcing/promoting nothing, just sowing confusion and nations taking stances which serve no one's interest.  He egged on the terrorists Saudis just to hide behind Putin when he realized he screwed up....again.  He egged on the dumping Mubarak just to support a military coup to correct the error.  All this time, the Palestinian issue languishes and Israel rules supreme building more settlements displacing the Palestinians while the Iranians have achieved "break-out" nuke position.

You may be correct, but they have the fire-power to compensate for it.
