LAHORE: Several workers of the Pakistan Peoples Party on Thursday demanded that the party leadership change the president of the PPP Punjab chapter.

Punjab PPP leader Aurang Zeb Barki expressed his dissatisfaction with the party leadership in Punjab and said the Punjab PPP President, Mian Manzoor Wattoo, was not popular among PPP workers. He said many leaders had successfully worked for the party in Punjab like Fakhar Zaman who remained the Punjab PPP president from 1989 to 1992.

Another PPP worker, Iqbal Ahmad, said the performance of the party in Punjab demanded change, adding that any other senior leader should be appointed as the Punjab PPP president.

He said Fakhar always remained close to the workers and the workers liked him. He said Benazir Bhutto always appointed a senior worker as the leader of the party in Punjab. Mian Amjad, another party worker, said there were several personalities who had faced hardships in the period of Ziaul Haq and it was their right to be appointed as political leaders.

He said if the party leaders wanted to restore their position in the province, the PPP decision-makers should appoint a leader popular among workers. app
