Multi – million dollar Call Centers to be constructed at Tuschen, Enmore

Call centers[www.inewsguyana.com] – Construction will soon commence at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo and Enmore, East Coast Demerara, for two call centers as Cabinet gave its no objection to hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts.

Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon told reporters at his post cabinet media briefing on Wednesday January 07 that a $114 million contract was approved to construct a call center at Tuschen while another $116 million contract was awarded for the construction of another call center at Enmore.

The project falls under the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce and iNews understands that construction for both centers is slated to commence on January 15. The contracts were approved by Cabinet in the latter half of December 2014.

Officials from the Ministry told iNews that the call centers are expected to provide approximately 600 persons with employment and construction should be completed within six months of its commencement.

However, the Ministry is not certain as to when the centers will become fully operational, as potential investors are being sought.

iNews understands that the main purpose of the call centers is to create employment for Guyanese.

A call center is a centralised office used for receiving or transmitting a large volume of requests by telephone. An inbound call centre is operated by a company to administer incoming product support or information inquiries from consumers. Outbound call centers are operated for telemarketing, solicitation of charitable or political donations, debt collection and market research.

That might be true but to you think that being a cashier at some Chinese owned super market offers better prospects?

Guyanese are poorly educated and unskilled so one cannot expect high skill jobs to be located there.

Until the PPP ceases to think that corrupt contracts to build/maintain schools are a sign of success, and that equipping Guyanese school leavers with the literacy, numeracy and cognitive skills to be some thing other than cheap labor, expect more of this.

I note that the PPP has decided that G/town should die.  Aside from more Chinese shops what job creation is going on in that city?

No I am referring to the complaints by Guyanese EMPLOYERS and by UG who claim that most Guyanese applying for jobs are SEMI LITERATE!

No surprise as those who are educated have LEFT GUYANA. We have the HIGHEST brain drain in the CARICOM, aside from Haiti.

Guyana does WORSE than Jamaica in the CXC for Math and English and Jamaica is very unhappy with their results.

Alena, sugar and rice are not completely dead. From here on into the future, technology and machinery will be used to plant and harvest cane. Rice farmers may force to adapt to modern machinery to plant and harvest rice. By then, the need for human labor will be slim. The new generation of Guyanese will have to seek academic skill to get into a different field of work. In the next decade, Guyana will further advance in technology where computer skills will be needed. So, Guyanese will have to think on this line.

Call Centers are global networking that set up in many countries like India where cheap wages are paid. Keep in mind that cheap wage is better than no wage. In the United States, they have virtual office and 24/7 (live) answering service that work for small, medium and large businesses that is cheaper than hiring a secretary. However, I don't know how much the people that answer your business calls @ 2 am in the morning are making. Is it fair for me to consider them working at the bottom of the barrel?

Call centers are bottom of the barrel jobs in 2015 you would expect that a country like Guyana is churning out software developers left and right.

Folks with Python, Objective C, C, .Net, J2EE skills, DBA's, Front end developers, Graphic artists, UX designers, Business analysts etc.

That is the point Serpent Piss, It is not that "call center" jobs are not good they are good. But the lack of offshoring capacity for software development which are higher paying jobs etc. Demonstrates a colossal failure of the PPP government. I know you will have a tough time stomaching that.

Get Anus to come and tell you how many OCXXX he pulling from Brazil to his BT hole.
