The Guyana Youth Development Association’s (Guyda) executive committee is inviting expressions of interest for the 13th Sitting of the National Youth Parliament, which is set for November.

According to a press release from Guyda, this year’s event will see scores of young people vying for the opportunity to have their voices heard about national issues that are affecting the growth and development of the country as well as its youth.

It said applicants should be between the ages of 16 and 35-years-old and must attend a preliminary screening on Saturday October 5, at which they will be required to do an oral presentation and a written test. Selected applicants will be required to attend workshops on debating skills, parliamentary ethics and other topics.

It noted that applicants should be intelligent, vibrant and motivated individuals with a drive for excellence.

Interested persons can submit their names, contact numbers and a short paragraph explaining why the why they should be selected to email addresses guydaguyana@ yahoo.com or to Christine_Bailey2005@ yahoo.com. Persons can also call telephone numbers 684-8380 or 642-0988 for more information.

This year’s Parliamentary Sitting of the National Youth Parliament will be held on November 6 at the Guyana International Conference Centre.

The release also said that Guyda’s executive had also taken a number of decisions regarding operations of the youth parliament at its recent Annual General Meeting, held on September 9. The meeting decided to select a committee that will manage and execute the sittings of the National Youth Parliament over the next two years. It has also drafted in new members, including national youth advocate and journalist Michael Younge, who is now the Training Facilitator; University of Guyana law student and ex-youth parliamentarian Keoma Griffith, who is the new Deputy Clerk of the National Youth Parliament; ex-youth parliamentarian Junior Finance Minister Juan Edghill, who will serve as the Deputy Speaker of the National Youth Parliament; Dana Waithe, who has been confirmed as the Speaker; and Kevin Fogenay, who was appointed General Secretary.

Meanwhile, media liaison in the Office of the President Kwame McCoy will continue as the executive Director/Chairman; Nigel Shurland as Finance Director; Hardatt Ramdass as Liaison Officer; and Christine Bailey as Coordinator.

This is as sick as you can get. Surely the PPP and its supporters know beyond all doubt this man is not supposed to be in a position of influence with kids. This is truly a sick decision.

You can't fire a man based on unfounded allegations. All of the allegations against Kwame came from AFC/PNC operatives including mitjuanita who was jealous for not being the first to sample the lil bai.
