[www.inewsuyana.com] – The Permanent Secretary (PS) attached to the Ministry of Legal Affairs has been sent on a 52-day administrative leave pending investigations into some missing law books.

Attorney General and Legal Affairs Minister, Basil Williams revealed the development during a press conference on Monday, December 07, where he noted that Indira Ananjit has been sent on leave almost three weeks ago.

He said that Ministry uncovered the missing books as result of an audit currently being carried out by the Auditor General’s office. According to Williams, in addition to the missing law books, there are some missing computer parts.

To quantify the missing pieces, Williams stated the Commonwealth Law Books are valued at some $2.5M and the computer parts valued over $2M. The period examined was from 2013 to now, said Williams – with Ananjit having served at the Ministry since July 2012.

The Legal Affairs Minister stated that “the PS authorized those purchases and the books cannot be found.” It was stated too that Melissa Tucker is currently serving as the acting Permanent Secretary.
