It's all about matchups. Miami's next two opponents (assuming they get past the Nyets) are the type of teams that present difficulties. The value of the Nets_Miami series is that the SoBes will show rust in game 1 from the long layoffs (there's a history of this in the NBA), and it looks like a long series. I won't be surprised if the Pacers wrap up their 2nd round series earlier than Miami and will have the advantage of the right amount of rest.
While the Nyets won all 4 reg season games, it's different when you have to focus on one opponent over a week.
2014 Regular Season
Heat 0
Nets 4
When it really counts
MIAMI -- Turns out, the Miami Heat can beat the Brooklyn Nets.
And rest hardly led to rust for the two-time defending NBA champions.
LeBron James scored 22 points, Ray Allen added 19 and the Heat stayed perfect in this postseason by beating the Nets 107-86 on Tuesday night in Game 1 of an Eastern Conference semifinal series. It was the first win for Miami in five meetings with Brooklyn this season.
Chris Bosh scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Dwyane Wade finished with 14 points and Mario Chalmers had 12 for Miami, which recorded at least one regular-season win against every team except Brooklyn, losing four times by a total of 12 points.
This one was a different story.
Deron Williams and Joe Johnson scored 17 points each for the Nets, who got only eight from Paul Pierce and no points from Kevin Garnett in 16 minutes.
The two stalwarts of recent playoffs showed their mettle - the Heat and the Spurs. Why are the two teams that looked to overtake last year's finalists - the Pacers and OKC - can't get out of their own way?
Game 1's experience for Miami is way different from the earlier cake-walk rounds as far as defensive intensity and talent are concerned. This Pacers team may not have Miami's smooth offense and quick points off of turnovers, but it can make you work for points and that tells as the game wears on.
4th quarter stamina and focus will be big in this series.
That is the best game Indiana will have this series. Those shots aren't going to drop like they did yesterday. And I would be surprised that there is such a free throw disparity again. Obviously Miami prepared for a different Indiana team, not the one they usually are. So I am not worried about this series. I still feel Miami wins in 5.
