Ok folks,

As we all know, Linden receives Billions in subsidies of Taxpayers monies for what ? Yes Electricity.

Now that Sugar workers of Wales will be displaced, it is only fair that the AFC/PNC dictatorship allocate 50 percent of that subsidy to the sugar workers of Wales.

This is fair.

After all, this is taxpayer's monies.

What is good for the Goose is good for the Gander.

How are you going to end subsidy when it is accounting gimmick. It is a markuo on BOSAI delivery of electricity by GPL to reflect costs of GPL's customers. GPL is a shoddy management company who that marks up its own electricity cost by some 30 to 40 percent to cover its own inefficient grid system.

Additionally, those very wales people were subsidized for a decade. They may not think so but the only reason they got a job was because they were on the taxpayers dole. Sugar has been in the red for a decade.

Lindeners paying $5 per KWH for electricity; Lethem as much as $80

[www.inewsguyana.com] Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson has announced that with a billion dollar subsidy to the LinMine Electricity Company, residents of Linden will be paying just $5 per Kilowatt hour for electricity in the mining town.

The Company is also listed for a $1B subvention under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and $2B under the Ministry of Finance. Patterson made the revelation following questions from Opposition members of the National Assembly. He stated that while residential customers will pay $5, business consumers will have to pay some $12.

However, while this is the case, PPP MP Nigel Dharamlall informed the House that residents of Lethem are paying some $180 per house.

“The Amerindians of Lethem are paying way above what other areas are paying especially Linden and we would like to urge the Ministry of Public Infrastructure to relook at the rates,” said Dharamlall.

He told the House that the information was obtained from a colleague member of Parliament; he was however forced to withdraw the statement after he failed to provide proof of the claim and Patterson pointed out the correct figures.

According to the Public Infrastructure Minister, residents of Lethem enjoy the first 15 kilowatts of energy for free. The next 15-50 kilowatts is charged at $60 and over 50 kilowatts is charged at $80 per kilowatt.

The Lethem Power Company is listed for a $70M subvention under the Office of the Prime Minister, while the company is also slated to benefit from a $35M subvention under the Public Infrastructure Ministry.

The monies from the Office of the Prime Minister were approved on Monday and the monies under the Public Infrastructure Ministry on Tuesday. It should be noted that while these areas have electricity subventions, other areas in Guyana pay the flat rate of $48 per KWH of residential electricity. The rate is a few dollars higher for commercial users.

Gov’t may not be able to sustain GuySuCo subsidy – CoI Chairman

October 2, 2015 10:31 am Category: Business A+ / A

By Jomo Paul

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Chairman of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) Commisison of Inquiry, Vibert Parvatan has revealed that the sugar industry has been operating at a loss of billions of dollars annually.

Parvatan, giving an update on the COI on Friday, stated that GuySuCo is in a very difficult situation with the unit production cost for sugar increasing each year.

“Every estate, without any exception, from Uitvlugt to Skeldon is operating at a loss. Every sugar estate is operating at a loss,” he stated.

According to the Chairman, the phenomenon has been happening for several years and from as early as 2005.

He said that in 2014, the company’s operations losses amounted to some $17B.

“In essence, the accountants will say that GuySuCo is insolvent, the past government and the present government have been committed and compelled to inject funds under the caption of bailout or subsidies to keep the company afloat,” said Parvatan.

It was acknowledged that the government through subsidies have been offsetting the blows sustained by GuySuCo, but every government, according to Parvatan, should have a limit on how far it is willing to go with respect to subsidies.

“While subsidies are not new to sugar industries, the administration – the government of the day, conscious of its sympathy and support for the industry, acknowledges that they have their own limits in terms of funding,” he said.

The Chairman noted that at the current pace, Guyana might not be able to sustain the subsidies being offered to GuySuCo.

“If GuySuCo was seen as just a business, there would have been a very simple obvious solutionâ€ĶBut to the government GuySuCo is more than just a businessâ€Ķ It is complex, it is complicated but not insurmountable,” he stated.

It was noted too that the Commission has already received several recommendations from persons who appeared before the Commissioners however some of them are impracticable.

The Commissioners will be submitting their final report to the Minister on October 17.

BOSAI sweetheart deal is no less than what others chinese companies got.  Linden assets were sold to OMAI for 5 million and they  later resold to BOSAI for 45 million. Some body made money here.

And the Indo KKK peddle the myth that its those "lazy blackman" who are gobbling up undeserved taxpayer funds.

yuji screams no subsidy for poor Lindeners, dealt a severe blow by Jagdeo.

But thinks that billions of dollars need to be spent to sustain an industry which shut be severely reduced in scope.

The best thing will be to give the assets to DDL, and assume the debt. DDL can then maintain enough production to guarantee sufficient molasses.  That should be done with sufficient sugar production to meet local demand.

Thousands will be out of work, all due to Jagdeo incompetence.

Some part of the industry has to be salvaged. It may mean subsidy for a few more years as they transition to different use of sugar in alternative products

No problem with that, according to Sase article $12 billion have to be pumped in Guysuco and yet they will not be profitable, close of the non performing estates, work on a plan how to get the affected workers gain employment.Every one is saying the same thing.

Yugi come here beating his chest take away 50% from Linden and pump it in Wales,,how much that amounts to $1 billon.

Where is the logic 29,000 in LInden gets subsidy $2 billion,20,000 sugar workers subsidy is $12 billion.

The govt will be better of give them the money weekly as unemployment and provide some of the land to start some other  type of agriculture products.

Yuji's logic is that blacks are savage scum so don't deserve any access tp taxpayer funds, whereas Indians should monopolize all.

Sadly there are those who pretend to be free from bias, who don't attack those attitudes, but will attack those who confront it.  They know who  they are.

They need to look deep within their own souls, to see if they view the bauxite workers in the same way as they view the sugar workers, because they are showing NO evidence of this.

And this is the problem.  Before Guysuco reached its current crisis point, it could have been sold off in parts to different entities.

All that can happen now is the sale, at a discount, of certain assets, with Guysuco's liability assumed by the state.  Guysuco then being liquidated.

But I can hear the Indo KKK chorus, led by Jagdeo screaming at this!

Why.  Because when the Indo KKK peddle their filth I confront them, unlike the socalled moderates like Vish Mahabir, who don't?

1. The subsidy is a sweet heart deal for BOSAI.

2.  Guysuco subsidies way exceed what the bauxite workers got.

3.  It is likely that some arrangement will be made for displaced Wales workers.  NO arrangements were made for displaced bauxite workers.
