Son of SuperBet agent admits to staging Pigeon Island robbery

In what is being described as a surprising turn in a robbery committed at a Superbet shop in Pigeon Island, East Coast Demerara, investigators are preparing to charge the son of the agent who operates the sport betting agency and two others on Tuesday.

Roberto Sankar

On January 30, last, six gunmen carried out a daring robbery at the sports betting agency and subsequently made off with $1M.
Employees of SuperBet had just collected money from another shop up the East Coast Demerara and were making a second pick up at Pigeon Island when the bandits attacked.
Kaieteur News was informed that investigators received intelligence that the son of the individual who operates the sports betting facility might have been involved in plotting the robbery.
As a result of this, detectives picked up the young man and questioned him. He subsequently confessed to staging the robbery and identified two of his accomplices, called β€œDevon” and another suspect called β€œAK man.”
Reports are that it was not the first robbery that the son planned on the sports betting agency. Additionally, the man allegedly staged a robbery last year in which several persons were robbed in the city. Investigators are now trying to gather as much evidence to lay the charges against him on Tuesday.
In 2013, one of the suspects was charged for robbing Kim Sarwan of a Blackberry cellular phone; Perry Ellis branded colognes and $1M cash at Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara (EBD) while armed with a gun.

Roberto's rich father Sankar is probably feeding him channa marning noon and night. So Roberto lash back.

Seriously, I am left bewildered at the rising tide of crimes perpetrated by relatives against their own. Only last Tuesday a US-based guy named Ganesh Looknauth was raided at his Lancaster Village ECD home and robbed of G$3M, US$3,000 and his wedding ring by three bandits. Two of the 'bandits' were Looknauth's nephews.

Honesty and trust by most in Guyana are  tremendously lacking, even with some relatives.

Staying at 'trusted' relative's home, we were given hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies, that were donated to needy parents.  They were stored  in a secured area in the house, but some start to vanish. No one knew about it, but they were seen being sold at the market.

Even credits from our cell phones were transferred to other phones in the house, but no one knew how it got there.

It was common practice to leave my wallet and phone by the bed night table. After cash going missing, all unused items are kept locked in my suitcase, including valuables at night.

Its also very unnerving, when someone in Guyana is calling for assistance. [I stopped answering calls  and would call back legit callers] They have this nasty habit of disconnecting after a minute and waited for us to call back  at a  higher cost.

This dishonesty is causing many agencies to downsize or discontinue their assistance to Guyana.

An overseas agency can take all the resources for community development and the community is expected to provide the labour.  In dozens of countries  where projects are implemented with free community labour,  Guyana is the only country where they demand payment.
