NEW YORK - City and national law enforcement officials are working to determine the credibility of new terror threats ahead of the election next week.
The New York City Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation are assessing information related to a potential al-Qaeda attack on U.S. soil on Monday, which they say is not yet considered credible and lacks specifics.
While its not clear how they came by the information, New York, Virginia and Texas have been mentioned as possible targets.
Speaking on the radio, Mayor Bill de Blasio says he has known about the threats for several days, and said New Yorkers should expected heightened security for the next few days because of the New York City Marathon and Election Day.
"We are watching carefully, we're certainly in a vigilant position, everyone's working hard, joint terrorism task force, FBI, etc., to assess this information," De Blasio said.
As always, the NYPD asks anyone with information about potential attacks to contact authorities.
