THE Guyana Parliament, yesterday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Canadian Government, to facilitate transmission, via the Internet, of live streaming of all parliamentary business.
The deal includes sittings, committee meetings and other parliamentary-related activities, for $5,244,064.Speaker Raphael Trotman explained that, when the tenth Parliament commenced, the vision was to bring it closer to the people of Guyana.
“And one way to provide this is by live streaming of our deliberations, our debates, in the House as well as the committee rooms,” he said.
He explained: “We are about to launch, in February, our E-Parliament pilot project where MPs and staff will begin using tablets to receive and share all information.
“In this evolving technological era, innovation has become a solution for redefining and strengthening of how governments interact with their citizens.
“By live streaming the proceedings of the National Assembly, Guyanese citizens will be better able to learn more about their country and the business of running it,” added Dr. Nicole Giles, Canadian High Commissioner to Guyana.
