ATTORNEY General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, is inviting any Guyanese to file a lawsuit against the Speaker of the National Assembly, Raphael Trotman, for allowing a constitutional bill to be approved with a simple majority in the House, even as the government accuses the Deputy Speaker, Deborah Backer, of attempting a coup d’État. Nandlall was at the time appearing at a People’s Progressive Party (PPP) media briefing at Freedom House, along with Parliamentarian and Presidential Advisor on Governance, Gail Teixeira and Junior Finance Minister Bishop Juan Edghill, among others. |

What is clear here is not the fact the bill was tabled. It is pellucid to the PPP that not one member within its ranks will vote any way they party does not decide the must vote. Clearly they see the Legislature as a rubber stamp of Presidential authority.
The point is that there is indeed a need for a 2/3 majority to change the constitution. The Opposition can table what ever they want on the hope that some PPP members or the PPP themselves will see merit in the motion. But no! There is nothing wrong with trying to jump start the ethical dead battery in the PPP machine.
They are here crying and waxing all legalistic when they should be speaking on the ethics, the necessity of such a thing and vote against it if they so choose. The President will now veto it but, again, there is nothing in the constitution that says the Opposition cannot propose legislation to change or remedy any social injustice they see in the society. That these PPP members cry these crocodile tears about the legitimacy of the action without debating its relevance it is truly despicable.
They should note, legitimacy of an action is not the end all of the discussion. There are things that though legitimate are immoral or anti the interest of the community.
This constant grating cry on the legitimacy of actions without a corresponding explanation of the moral necessity for its legitimacy is what will certainly be the disinfectant for these corruptocrats.
Changing the constitution to create more security for the rights of Guyanese is a good thing. Changing the constitution as a strategy of securing political power from a elected government is bad.
The PNC rigged the national election and Jagdeo-Ramotar rigged the internal PPP election.

I wonder if you are not ashamed of this. Were is it said that changes would be unfair to the present administration? Nothing will stop its supporters from voting for it. The problem here is the expansion of democratic expressions and accountability into the system
FROM ALL IMFORMATION I AM RECEIVING, THERE WILL BE A SNAP ELECTION WITHIN THE NEXT NINE MONTHS. THE PPP HAS STATS THAT THEY WILL GAIN A MAJORITY IN GOVERNMENT, TIMING IS ALL IMPORTANT.

aand your point IS??? National vs Internal is too difficult, I know and I feel for you.

Ramo is quite happy with the status quo---let the opposition AFC/PNC continue to disgrace themselves in parliament.
