42 computers stolen from NCERD office
November 24, 2011 | By KNews.

Police are investigating the reported theft of 42 computers from the National Centre for Education Resource Development (NCERD) in Kingston, Georgetown.
Although personnel from the centre as well as the Ministry of Education remained tightlipped, police yesterday confirmed that they received a report about the theft on Tuesday.
The theft of the computers comes at a time when the government has commenced the distribution of laptop computers under the one laptop per family initiative.
This newspaper understands that staff at the center observed that there was a breakage and subsequently discovered the computers missing when they turned up for work on Tuesday.
Kaieteur News could not ascertain if the computers were in use or were just stored.
Queries about the theft led to this newspaper being referred to the NCERD Director, Mohandat Goolsarran, who in turn directed Kaieteur News to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Pulander Khandai.
Initially, Khandai said that he was unaware of the development and promised to investigate and furnish this newspaper with information later in the day.
However when this newspaper contacted him several hours, he indicated that he was in a meeting and never returned a call.
Police say that no one has been arrested but several staff members have been questioned
