Reports are that Luncheon was taken by ambulance to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC)’s compound where the CHI is housed.
He was released and sent away around 15:00hrs.

Early last month, Dr. Luncheon said that he is putting on hold his option of retirement at the end of this year.

Speaking after one of his weekly post-Cabinet press briefings, he said that the move by the political Opposition to table and pass a no-confidence motion in the government, has forced him to delay his retirement plans.

“My plan has certainly been altered by this no confidence motion and its likely outcome,” he stated.

Dr. Luncheon had planned to give up his role in government due to ill health. A few months ago, he had announced that he was suffering from cancer and had opted to not have any treatment administered.

“I may or I may not live up, both literally and figuratively, to this outcome of the no-confidence motion, but if they have elections I would like to have the last opportunity to lay my wares out to the Guyanese public,” Dr. Luncheon said.

Luncheon is a critical front-man to the ruling administration, serving as a Head of Presidential Secretariat and Cabinet in consecutive Governments. He also heads up the Defence Board and the National Insurance Scheme.

HEAD of the Presidential Secretariat and Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon was yesterday afternoon discharged from the Caribbean Heart Institute.

Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle outside of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation as the Cabinet Secretary was being taken to his car after being discharged, Agriculture Minister Dr. Leslie Ramsammy recalled that Dr. Luncheon was attending Cabinet meeting yesterday morning when he had to be rushed to hospital.

Said Dr. Ramsammy: “Dr. Luncheon wasn’t feeling well this morning. He came to the Cabinet meeting despite the fact that he wasn’t well, and during the Cabinet meeting, he had something to drink and vomitted; so we brought him to the hospital. The emergency doctors have checked him out; he was dehydrated, and that’s the cause for him not feeling well. They have re-hydrated him by treating him with saline. He is well, as you can see, and going home.” Dr. Luncheon was discharged around 14:15 hrs.

Meanwhile, as he was being discharged, the Cabinet Secretary was surrounded by supportive Cabinet members who had spent several hours at his bedside during his period of hospitalization.
