Congressman Stephen Lynch said he is “skeptical” that President Obama’s decision to send up to 450 more U.S. military advisers to Iraq will make a difference in the fight against the Islamic State.

“We have already trained 938,000 Iraqis and we’ve spent $25 billion doing it, so I am skeptical that this is going to solve the problem,” the South Boston pol told the Herald this afternoon. “I’m going to have a chance to visit Iraq soon and I will have to make an assessment when we get on the ground there to fully understand what they’re doing.”

Obama announced today he has ordered the deployment of up to 450 more troops to Iraq to advise and assist local forces in an effort to reverse the barbaric terror group’s recent gains in the war-torn country.

The military advisers will join the 3,500 U.S. troops already on the ground in Iraq, Lynch said.

“I’m not convinced this is the right thing to do,” he said. “I remain skeptical, but I guess this is the president’s plan so we’ll just have to see what happens.”
