The post-mortem examination performed on the body of 28-year-old Hafeeza Rohoman of Helena, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD) who was found in a trench in the village proved that the woman was murdered. The woman went missing on January 7 and was found dead four days later.
Dead: Hafeeza Rohoman
The autopsy performed by Dr Nehaul Singh gave the cause of death as blunt trauma to the head. Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Guyana Times on Friday evening that the woman’s reputed husband, Lakeram Harinarine, also called “Vicky” was arrested and confessed to beating the woman. He reportedly told investigators they were on a bicycle when an argument ensued between them. As a result, the now dead woman came off the bicycle, collected the wooden bar and dealt Harinarine one blow to his body. In a drunken state, he retaliated by forcefully retrieving the bar and dealing Rohoman several blows to the head. He claimed that the woman then fell overboard, but instead of helping her, he rode away. The decomposed body of the mother of four was found floating in a nearby trench on Sunday last. She was last seen on January 7, thus leaving family members to believe that the suspect was involved in her disappearance given the fact that he was not seen since. Relatives of the dead woman had told reporters that the woman recently moved in with Harinarine who was described as an alcoholic. Residents claimed that the couple would consume alcohol on a regular basis. The man was also in the habit of beating the woman whenever he was drunk. Harinarine is expected to be charged with murder as early as Monday.
I meant domestic violence as a separate subject which I am tempted to believe is more of a problem than suicide. It does not get the publicity as many see it as shame.
